Props to the Access Fund for their hard work in getting climbing access to Castle Rock Ranch outside of Almo. Last time I was there I met a guy who told me that the climbing ranger was already scoping routes and prepp'ing the area for climbing. Is it open to climbing yet? Who has route information? Any more multipitch routes or possibility out there? What is the process for bolting, registering routes? Just reply on this forum so anyone else visiting the area can see the information.

I talked to Ranger Brad a couple weeks ago about this. He had assured me that it would be open this season. The current status is that the area is still under negotiation, and it probably won't be opened until next year. Fact is, most of the land is BLM owned, and has always been open. Problem is, the access road is on private land, and that's where the talk has stalled. You are always free to hike in and climb what you want. Er, let me take that back. A couple of Access Fund guys came out early when the land was first donated and climbed a few plumb lines. Problem was, they didn't know exactly where they were and got busted by the land owner climbing on private ground. That little stunt put back the opening by about a year or so. Brad's take is, even though you can hike in to some of it, it's a touchy issue right now, and the greater good would be served if everyone waited until it was officially opened. Of course, Brad's a little facsist, so...

"Access Fund Guys"? Who are these selfish dweebs? I have been waiting for over two years for this park to open. Nice to know that these mysterious "Access Fund Guys" will make everyone's wait even longer. [ This Message was edited by: astone on 2002-07-01 12:42 ]
