This is a really neat area to climb I would like to see the area open for climbing, I don't see why there can be cleat traditional or top rope climbing in this area.
There seems there is enough un-climbable chossy rock that most of the vegetation would remain untouched by climbers.

Does anyone have experience with dealing with local conservation and trying to working out a compromise?

Not a lot of experience in the area, but I am sure if a bunch of us got involved with the conservation end of things out there we could get them to loosen up a bit. I just moved into the area and took a job that is allowing me to get into better climbing shape, and I would love to have a place close to train. Gimme a shout.
