i was thinking maybe the direction of pull being more in line with the shuts would be weaker. i would back it up to a tree or boulder. for a softpoint or backup, is it reliable to thread rope or webbing through the clove hitch then tying the rope or webbing around the anchor? i set up a low line fully redundant familiarize myself with the setup, especially using a doubled line, i tried this method and it worked, but of course it never got weighted. Cold shuts really only work against shear forces, and even then, they're a bit weak (relatively speaking). Is it an option to just use the tree/boulder?
