this summer me and a few friends will climb mount kilimanjaro (tanzania, africa).
has anyone ever climbed this beauty and give me some advice?

Have you got a guide booked?
You know ther is no real climbing unless you want to try to climb the glaciers 3/4 up.
Basically it is a strenuous 6 day hike with some of the most spectacular scenery and beauty you will ever see.
Day one you will hike out of the rainforest to Machawe and you will see how height really changes the face of a mountain.
Day two you should start to really feel the effects of the altitude. You will go past 9000ft to the Shira plateu. About 5hours hiking.
The next two days you have to make sure you acclimatise properly.
You will hike past the Lava Tower and the glaciers to the foot of Kibo peak. I won't describe it because words will be a waste. Awesome.
The following day is a pretty tough hike to Barufu camp and the next day or night (as they sometimes like to do it) you will move through to Uhuru peak at 19340ft.
A lot of people like doing the last hike from midnight to dawn so that they can see the sunrise juat as they summit.
They view is just unbelievably amazing.
You will love it and want to do it again.

As I know it is anyway not allowed to climb up there without a guide from the government. And it is pretty expensive.

Was supposed to do that last summer with a mate. I had to pull out because I broke my ankle a couple of months before it, but he went anyway. From what he's said (and he's said a lot, at great length) it sounds amazing!
He's not into climbing, but has done some walking around Scotland. Says it's one of the most incredible places he's ever been. Also says that he only just made it with the altitude.
Guides are indeed compulsory. Bummer, but that's life. Like the guys say above, it's not climbing or in any way technical. Just a good long hike.

Kilimanjaro is an other-worldy experience!! You can feel her alive under your feet!!
Mainly hiking routes, but there are a few ice climbs, and scrambles.
Which route are you planning on doing Bert?

There are differnt degree of guides there and we skipped them which is quite easy. They can give you a permit and if stopped just say either they are ahead or behind you.
The downside is you will find people in shorts and runners taking up the trail not prepared for whats above. What is above is a steady flow of people trudging along a trial
kinda like the west coast trail in vancouver but with elevation
