Saturday 10/31/04- Two ice climbers were killed in an avalanche. They were swept over a series of cliffs. The third member of the part tried to rescue them but couldn't. The climbers were approaching the ice on the north facing side of Sphinx Mountain in the Madison range just outside of Bozeman Mt. My heart goes out to the family and friends of these ice climbers. Let this be a reminder to take avalances very seriously. I was on Sphinx the weekend before this happened and a skiier burried himself almost to his waiste from an avalanche he triggered. Remember to be safe out there and dont forget your beacon, shovel and probe. Pete Bozeman, MT

That sucks. I have skied and climbed on the Sphinx and it can be treacherously corniced and unpredictable. My condolences go out to the families and friends of Nathaniel and Bryan. Too many condolences going out lately.
