if i were you i'd would keep going to the gym and you will meet people there. or maybe go to your local crag to meet people. don't look for people who are serious about climbing to be your climbing partner. look for people who make climbing fun for you; cuz that's what it's all about. climbing can suck if you are with people that are douche bags. (bad roadtrip experience)

I agree with the other posts. The one thing I might add, but it should be carefully considered, is the local climbing shop. I don't know how things are set in your town, but many of the locally owned climbing shops I've seen (Atlanta, Denver, Boulder, Phoenix, etc.) all have "partner search" bulletin boards where you can post "Looking for a partner" messages. I would suggest, due to your age, that you meet this person in the gym first. Going out into the woods with a new partner is a bad idea for a young lady such as yourself. Best of luck.

Yeah, I would say the same thing. I'm 18 and had the same problem when I was younger--but the best thing is probably to meet people in person, at the gym. Come to boulder and hook up with someone else who's solo. Just give it time and things will fall into place... peace, taylor

WoW, It is amazing how many rc.com groupies will come "out of the woodwork" to give some random 15 year old girl THEIR advice... in the midwest forum?! It's funny how advice comes in the form of "be safe, your young" but yet we have older men from over 1000 miles away replying to a 15 year old girl, in which I might add, none have answered her question. windsrfr89: First thing they should have asked you is what gym do you goto in Northern Illinois? The number one thing you probably should look into first (considering your age) is your local gym's Jr. Climbing Programs, Junior Climbing Team, et al. That is a great way to meet and hang out with climbers your age. I might be able to hook you up with some people depending on what gym you attend. later, A.

Well, I can't help you as a "local" partner as I am in Milwaukee. However, come Spring and Summer, you and your friends are more than welcome to join my clan of old farts at Devil's Lake and get schooled on proper TR set-ups and placing pro. Just so you know, the offer is there and we can get you on real rock. Don't worry, none of us are creepy. Well, mabye me. At least my wife Tammy says so.

Original title of post editted by andy_lemon to remove "15 year old girl". Now reads, "need partner/mentor in rockford area".

Have you tried to get involved with any of Northlander's climbing programs, specifically this one:
In reply to: Adult Climb Time This ongoing class covers all information in the getting started class plus essential movement, exercises, and stretching to help the adult recreational climber reach their full potential on the wall. Thursdays 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Prerequisite: Youth Certification, Northlander Membership* or RVC Registration I know the prerequisite "youth certification" can not apply to you since you are older than 14 years old (maybe you already went through this program?). I could not find out any info on the RVC Registration was or what it pertains to. Also, be at the climbing comp on December 18th to meet several climbers, especially those around your age:
In reply to: Northlander will be hosting an American Bouldering Series Competition on December 18 Starts 1:00pm Finals 5:00pm Slackline Comp 4:00pm Cost: $25.00 to Pre Register (deadline Dec. 10) $30.00 for day of registration Format: ABS REDPOINT Categories: JUNIOR(to age 14), RECREATIONAL, INTERMEDIATE, ADVANCED, and OPEN(finals will be held for Open only) Please arrive at least an hour early for registration. We do not currently have the registration form on the web site, but please download our wavier and complete it to make registration go faster. If you would like to pre-register, please contact us and we will either email or fax you the registration form. If you have any other questions please contact us. later, Andy

Northland/GAR has some nice walls. The YMCA has a COPES course and there are several towers and walls run by the scouts outdooors around Rockford and Janesville. This time of year, Northland is a good place to stay in shape
