On Dec. 7, 04 I went bouldering by myself at Sand Rock. When I pulled in the lot there was one other vehicle there, a navy blue older model Toyota Camry or Corrola. I went on not thinking to much about the other vehicle, although I had been seeing it several times there recently and could tell that the owner was a non-climber. I also have noticed this car appear around the time fresh spraypaint has been showing up. I returned to my vehicle after about three hours to find the back window busted out, and the other car was gone. Has anyone else had a similar experience at SR or am I the only one? Beware if you see this car! I am 99% sure he is the one who did it. It has Alabama Plates Staring with 31 for Etowah County

Sorry dude. That really sucks. How much of an imbecile do you have to be to graffitti nature and bust a persons window out for no reason?

As a fan of graffitti - it belongs on places such as corporate businesses; not on someone's personal property per se....

Those scum people are so incencetive to bust your window for no reason what so ever....... In SA they at least always steal something if they bust your window. Sometimes they even just take the whole car. My one buddy lost a rope and some gear that he left in the car while we where climbing.

Happened to me last night in my driveway. Busted the rear drivers side window but didn't take anything. Anyone have any insight into why people commit these random acts of senseless violence? Friktion

Graffitti without the pproperty owner's permission, corporate or otherwise- is vandalism and no one should tolerate that. Corporations are owned by indivduals - us- and I see no logical distinction in excluding them.

That's Sand Rock for ya, and I hate to hear about your experience! As long as that place is unregulated, it seems like all the goodwill of the climbers (cleanups, trail days, grafitti removal, anchor replacement) will be overshadowed by the actions of a few ignorant rednecks. It's a shame, since that's the only substantial sport climbing area in the state. Time for a plug: http://www.seclimbers.org for trail days, comps, and other upcoming events at Sandrock and other SE locales.

It appears I was remiss when I thought nothing was stolen from my car. Due to value of the items that were left I totally over looked the fact that my climbing pack w/ my shoes and chalk bags was boosted. Hows that for Murphy's Law? The contents of the bag was roughly half the cost of 1 pair of sunglasses less then 1 foot away. Now I really feel violated. On a lighter note, at least I have a legitmate reason to get new shoes now. Friktion

On friday feburay 9th, the same thing happened to me at sandrock. :( While I was climbing, they busted my window and stoled my wallet from under my seat. There were only two cars in the lot, and the other one had its window busted too. Im still working on getting new credit cards, ids, etc. If your going up there, it might be best to stick to saturdays and sundays. Even though the routes are more crowded, there are more people around to moniter what is going on. I filled a report. Hopefully we can find this guy soon.

Heres what you should do: Take a medium sized Water Mocossin and place it into a burlap bag. Put the cas/bait for scumbags in a conspicuous spot close to the edge of the seats. Once you decide to leave the car, loose the snake and itll go scurry under the seats until the 'visitors' arrive. Upon seeing the 'bait' the scumbags will gleefully enter the vehciel startling the snake and its new home, and then proceed to grab at the bait, just in front of the pissed off pit viper. As they recoil in intense pain and terror, the snake will continue to chase them from its new territory and hopefully get another strike in before they crumple....Best part is, now the snake gets to go free, the perps are immobilized and hopefully a lesson has been learned.... dont mess with mother nature, or her pissed off sister Vengence!!!!!

Sandbag ... I like your idea. What happens if the snake stays in the car? How are you supposed to get it out? Hell, just shoot them all and let God sort them out!

I might be a redneck, but I say if he busted your windshield, you bust his ride. you might not have your problem fixed, but atleast he's got problems of his own, and you can make his problems much, much worse. Make sure you have to right car.

The best thing to do is keep a lookout for this car. We have a pretty good description and part of a license plate. If any body sees it, write down the plate# and PM it to deras. Then he can use it if he files a police report. Real tempting to retaliate, but if its the wrong car...

you could set up some sort of a sting. Use a shitty car and lay waiting for the Window Buster from Hell. Book em Daniel. Or bust his ass so he wouldn't even think of it again ... severe beatings can leave a lasting impression!

Thats what i'd say go down there and act casual like any other day of climbing and then just find a comfortable spot and wait for the jerk to come. Then when he does jump his ass and beat the hell out of him Or just call the cops
