In reply to: Hey Mac, you should really check out Klein's book, at the very least, although I am not sure if that is stalking or not. Frontiers of the Historical Imagination. Really interesting fusion of intellectual history and literary criticism that traces the development of how writers through the twentieth century have approached the myth of the American West. Why would you suggest that? Don't you like Mac? Curt

hehe. Dude, curt, Mac is another humanities student, she just may like Klein's book. I've been using it for a lot of stuff lately as I prepare for my comp exams. (soapbox) Academics in the climbing community are incredibly rare. We all how many engineers, scientists, and mathmaticians climb, and not infrequently we hear about how they apply their logical, left-brained analysis to their climbing. The sciences are conducive to climbing. However, we never hear about professors in history, english, philosophy, or anthropology that climb. There are very few. There have even been a few times as I sit through seminars listening to fellow students and professors hedge around problems, using unnecessary complicated words, and accomplish absolutely nothing intellectually, that I sometimes wonder if being an academic is somehow NOT conducive to climbing. Would we push forward through the crux, or would we simply sit around talking about it? So yeah, that's why I was so stoked when you told me about Klein: tenured professor at a very reputable institution, who is also a hell of a climber. And his book r00lezzzzz.

If she intends to do it and I say no, then I may be discouraging her from doing so. That would be bad. But if I say yes and she has no intention of doing so, then I'll be exposed as a charlatan. Hmmm... [j_ung thinking to himself] Yes. Yes she will. :D

NH is cooler than UT for all of the following reasons and many more: -Easier access to Beer and other staples of a climber's life (whatever they may be) -The temperature is lower -There are no "anti-cruising" laws in NH -The traffic lights don't beep at you -Fewer people will try to get you to join their religion and bring all your dead relatives with you -The lakes don't have salt in them -Having tried to sleep in a car in both states, I can tell you that fewer people will hassle you in NH -If people do hassle you in NH, they are less likely to be armed -Orin Hatch does not live in NH
