If I can assume, most have not heard of the place called Reunion Island. From a quick estimate I imagine that this little place about the size of Rhode Island has more sporting activities than many countries. Most do not even know where it is..... But I would just give an invitation to begin a bit of research about this little place.

I happen to be blessed to live here for the time being working in Church ministry. This island with about 775,000 population is about an hour flight to the east of Madagascar in the Indian Ocean. It is a French department of France and is about a 12 hour flight from Paris. You'll need to save a few extra dollars transferred into Euro when you visit.

This is the place where I have just started to learn how to sport climb. There are about a dozen different areas to go and all present their own challenges. Reunion also is the host to Canyoning which is basically rappeling over waterfalls. It certainly takes a bit more technique because it is done with a wet suit.

Give me a shout if you would like and will try to give you a bit more information. Also have a few initial photos if you check my user name.

A warm welcome or bienvenue as the French would say!

Pretty pictures on the website... my wife and I were considering flying to the Seychelles for our honeymoon, but it's a bit on the expensive side so we settled for Cayman Brac ;-). La Digue looked like it had some fantastic boulders along the beaches... although with camping legally forbidden you have to wonder whether many people would visit just for that.

(yes, I know Reunion and Seychelles are different territories, but they are close together, no? Does Reunion have similar rock formations to the Seychelles islands?)

Yeah the surfing here is great too along scuba and many other sports. I lived on Cayman Brac for 2 years before I knew anything about climbing but I thought that I would like to get some equipment and try the cliffs. Just didn't have anyone to try it with. The rock formation in the Seyshelles are very different from Reunion. On Reunion we have a 10,000 ft mountain.
