In reply to: Well, Friday was good at the pass, once again. The avy danger is a little high right now, nasty wind slabs, but there was some good stuff in the trees. There is a tenative plan to go down to Monarch pass on Tuesday if anyone cares to join. Somebody down south perhaps? I'm off on Saturday too, so any of you weekend warriors who want to get out please ring in :P KC, I would love to get out tomorrow...but that shit called work keeps gettin in the way. :? I would like to join in on Sat. possibly another coworker as well.

I am so down for Saturday. It looks like no snow to very little will fall. That should mean stability will go up a bit, which I want for this trek. It's about a 2-4 hour hike out depending on where we go, well for Vince it's 1-2 hours.... Anyway, it's one of the biggest drops out there. I am talking 3000 plus feet of vert depending on the coverage. Really sweet trees all the way down. Will have to keep an eye on the weather.

SKI DEAL...I just bought 2 tickets to the KILO 94.3 ski bus on Friday 17th. My buddy just bailed so I have to get rid of the second ticket....The deal is, you ride up on the bus (with movie) get free lunch and a free ski pass then catch a ride back on the bus. The bus leaves at 6:15 from the springs. I paid $35 will sell for $25...

One that doesn't require me to work. um, skibs, you work at a ski area. When some of us take a break from the desk, we have the option of (a) walking around the factory floor, or (b) trying to escape the phones by using the throne in the "reading room". Fer chrissakes, tell your staff you have to do some "quality assurance" during the day. Your customers depend upon your accurate and up to date knowledge of resort operations, which just happens to include snow conditions. And first hand knowledge is always the best source of information. So quit yer beechin' and figure out some excuse to make some turns during the day.

I got out yesterday and it definitely has not snowed in awhile. The bad news at the ski area runs are all had and hard pack. The good news is, now you can go adventuring on the Divide. We did a little hike out by Mines and found about a 1000 to 1500 vertical of nicely spaced old growth trees. It was pretty kewl, the forest canopy kept the snow well shaded, but you could just dart around in the trees. Spaced widely enough for 4 to ride alongside and have complete untracked the whole way. Getting out of there was a real pain though, especially on a board. I think the next time back there I am going to elect for a short skin up and over a ridge, for a better run out. Should make for two very good runs instead of one to boot. Live and learn from my mistakes I guess. :? The good news is that there are two big shots that should be good to go unless we get a crazy amount of snow. I guess some is supposed to fall today but there are talking 1-2 inches only. Should only make that area nicer if anything. It'll probably be only one run for the day, but man, what a run it will be. Expect a two to three hour approach and a huge drop, to a very, very huge drop. We will definitely be in the trees so expect the fun and the bs that goes along with that. So who's in? Also, for anyone that is considering on going out, but doesn't have the avy gear. I have just picked up a new beacon, so I have a spare digital to lone to those who want to check it out. Saturday should be a good day...

May be going to Monarch Pass for Tuesday, if they get some snow, otherwise Berthoud Pass is likely. You are welcome to join. 8^)

Thanks for the update on Monarch Pass 8^) . Yesterday was a long day on Berthoud Pass, found some interesting terrain, and some not so good terrain. In all it was mediocre. There is suppose to be some snow moving into the state the next couple of days. If it comes in from the North we are looking at maybe doing some riding near the Wyoming-Colorado border up by Granby on Tuesday. If anyone is off you are welcome to join. Lisa, are you in?

We checked out Willow Creek pass yesterday. Found some good snow in the trees. Tried to get a nice open bowl but the windslab build up was just a little too sketch for our tastes. Not to mention the big slab release on the backside was enough make us a little skittish  . The bad news is that not much snow has been falling in the mountains for over a week now. Checking around other BB's it looks like everyone in the North America is having the same problems. This last storm that hit the front range, left .1" at Winterpark and an inch at Wolf Creek and Monarch. Big dump :boring: . Hopefully a few more inches will pile up by this weekend. Anyone looking to get out Christmas Eve day and Christmas day?

Yeah, it's been getting bad. I am running out of ideas where good stashes of snow are. I've got a couple left in my back pocket, but the more we go without snow the worse it gets. The real bummer is that it's not going to be warm enough for me to consider rockclimbing...

In reply to: ...and the resort is really icy... I believe the technical term is "firm", as in "really firm". The kind of firm that makes snowboarding a joke (unless the dude has a slalom board). The firm that makes free riders wonder why they ground their edges to nothing on rails. The firm that strikes terror in the hearts of flat landers on their once a year vacations. Ah, yes. The kind of firm that makes slalom gates stay put in the snow; that makes race courses smooth like buttah; that makes well-tuned boards sing like a diva. Batten down the hatches, crank down the boots, it's mach schnell time. Well, at least until the next big storm hits.

Vince, What are you thinking? PM me. I've got a couple ideas for the Berthoud Pass area. There is at least one shot, that should have plenty of snow. Will had a spot too, that he thought would be good. What is your schedule looking like for next week? I would like to get something done on Friday for sure.

^^^^^^^^^ Yeah it was pretty cold on Friday. Especially up above treeline. Fortunately the wind wasn't that bad at Berthoud. Anything that is exposed to the sun or wind if pretty much boiler plate these days. North facing trees has been where it's at, and of course that is where we went 8^) . It's pretty amazing, it hasn't reall snowed in two weeks and we were still riding calf to knee deep pow Friday and yesterday. Sure you have to hike a little more, but the stash we have been hitting gave up three runs and untracked lines with well spaced trees the whole way. Still plenty to be had there. If it doesn't snow big by Tuesday, I am headed right back there. Anyone care to join in?
