Ok, so the past couple of days have been nothing short of awesome!!! 8^)

Berthoud had well over a foot of fresh we were riding in the old ski area. I'm sure it was much deeper if you toured out further, but there was no need. Good chute, boulder, and cliff shots to be had all over the place. It was a blast getting some of those lines you can only do after a dump.
Monarch was well....Monarch. 2-3ft trenches with plent of cold smoke blowing all around you. Some of the lightest snow I've ridden all season.

All I can say is that it seems that everywhere in the state is getting their fair shair right now. It's gotta be good at the resorts or bc. GET OUT THERE!!!!!

KC-
We had a great time riding with everyone on saturday, hope we can all get snow sprayed in our faces again soon. Looks like we got out of pagosa at the right time since no one is leaving now.

It was a blast 8^) . Did you see an avy closed 50 on Monarch Pass. I hope Will and Shanna didn't get stuck by that one. I don't know if it would have been worse to be up on the pass or stuck in the cabin. No one was hurt but a few cars got caught. Hopefully not theirs.

I'm thinking this Saturday is looking good to get some more blower in our faces....

Hey everybody! I don't know what's goin on with RC.com I haven't been able to view the website. Looks like it's back up now.

I wanted to say I had a great time at Monarch on Sat. the snow couldn't have been better. The company wasn't too bad either. I'm looking forward to the next sliding session. 8^)

yeah vince...sat was great. shanna and i went back on sun to drop the backside and let's just say that the extra foot of fluffy stuff made for a heavy load. a giant WUMPH! just before the rollover into those trees scared us off. next time. we found good turns across the road though.

avalanche kept us from the snow mon, but we got some turns in at the resort on yesterday.

i am psyched for another tour down there. there is a lot of terrain to be explored. a lot of it is more of a tour though, not so much like bertoud where the descent conveniently deposits you at a car.

cheers
wb

What is everyone thinking for this weekend? I spoke with pdiddy (Perry) about maybe checking out the North side of Vail Pass on Saturday. Berthoud has been good and Monarch is not out of the question either. Just about everywhere has gotten good snow, so it shouldn't be too hard to find good turns.

KC, Vail sounds good although I don't think they got the same amount of snow as down south. I'll have to confirm tomorrow whether I get a hall pass or not.

Kewl, give me a call. Seems like Vail Pass got some good dumps. Monarch probably got the most out of the areas, and I am not opposed to going there again. The pow sure is sweet. I'm going to give pdiddy (Perry) a call tonight and see what he is thinking for Saturday. We really can't go wrong anywhere in the state right now. Except for backcountry skiing in Greeley or something like that....

For those who are interested in taking an avy class. Friends of Berthoud Pass is doing another this year. These guys are some of the best around. Though it's not an avy I class, you'll probably learn just as much if not more all for $10. It was posted over at Telemarktalk.
Here is the text:

Friends of Berthoud Pass has added a third avy class.

The classroom session is set for Jan 27th, 7pm in Denver.
The on-snow portion will be held at Berthoud on Feb 5.
Cost is $10 for members and it WILL sell out.

The course has been a remarkable success and everyone was raving about it afterward.
We might do one more this winter, but likely this is it until next season. Get on it while you can.

Hope to see ya there!

Got out to Berthoud Pass on Friday. Quite a bit of wind in the morning, but it died down by the early afternoon. Very cold! Did a nice tour starting with the resort, riding down to the Current Creek drainage then skinning back up to the ridge between Current and 2nd creek. Did the low angle bowl below the cliff band, then back up to the saddle and rode down to the east on the shoulder all the way to the highway. Avoiding the tea cup bowl and cliff bands in that area. Very loaded. A good day, conditions varied from really crusty to nice fluff. In general the tops of the runs were wind crusted over and got nicer as you descended.
Saturday was spent at Geneva Basin. The area is certainly no big secret, but it was nice to check out something new. We got great turns and the hiking wasn't bad though a bit longer since you have to hike up from the base of the old ski area, instead of getting the advantage of starting from a high point like the top of Berthoud Pass. Definitely not as much snow has fallen there as with other areas. Probably a big reason the ski area went out of business. Still it will be worth another visit later in the season.
I'm getting out Tuesday, anyone available?

Ok, we're getting that darn dry spell again. Which we do need to stabilize things a bit, but now we have to go get some of the stashes that are around Berthoud pass and other areas.
Monarch has been kicked around for Friday or Saturday. Berthoud has some good hike to stuff, that if it's warm, perhaps we should go get it. Any thoughts anyone?

KC, I should be getting out Sat. Whatcha got in mind?

I got out to Monarch today and found a decent tree run on the far side of the back bowl. The angle is steeper with about the same snow conditions as powerline. I made 5 runs all over the pass with varying conditions, anything east or south facing was trash. Bring on the new snow!
