Went bouldering Saturday - first time climbing since late Dec. :( Managed to haul my carcass up a V0, a V1 and a V2. Was very sore yesterday! Much too much time in the lab...

A couple of us went out on Sunday before the game. I wanted to cry today when I put gloves on over my poor little hands to work in my lab.

No climbing today. Yesterday I climbed ice in RMNP all day. The day consisted of a long hike in, long hike out, multiple pitches of ice and some slogging on top of that. Picture this. . .pristine alpine peaks all around you, no other people in site, snow capped peaks in view beyond the snow capped peaks right in front of you and under you, watching your partner disappear into the clouds that just came in, blue ice, nothing but the sound of your axes and crampons shattering the silence a long with the occasional bird and absolutely no wind. . .ahhhhhhh.

Tell me you froze your butt off so I won't be terribly jealous. I guess I should ante up, bouldered hard fri and sun, no skin left. Gotta love those highballs! Spotted a friend who does stuff I'll never get, ever, but it's fun to try. Resorted to no hands problems. How do people feel about a climbing thread creeping into Scummunity?

I had a good layering system and I had a handwarmer in my right glove (only because I have a busted pinky and when it gets cold, the pain is pretty brutal). My coldest moment was after we descended and started sorting gear and drinking beer. Brrrr.

Sadly, Monday is a work day. However, Sunday was ice climbing day. Got to work six routes in the Catskills alongside the road leading up to Hunter Mountain near Tannersville. Experimented with leashless axes and got to do some drytool placements and a few mixed ice/rock moves. Perfect weather, sunshine in the high 40s at the base and solid ice in the shade. Not bad for a gym rat, but some colored tape would've helped! :D

Curt Truly, I am nothing if not confusing-- an onion wrapped in an enigma surrounded by mystery, ensconced in deep doo-doo... uh scratch that last part.
