Well.. Started climbing in 1975 while still in high school in south central PA. There were no other climbers that I knew of in the area, so I started teaching myself how to climb. I would drag school friends out, show them how to belay, and off we went. My first "real big" climbing trip was to Seneca Rocks around Easter 1976. I had been climbing for about a year and felt comfortable leading 5.6 by then.

Within a year or so, a friend (Sean Meehan) and I started a small local climbing club. A local backbacking shop was helpful in providing the space for a monthly meeting. It was a good win-win situation. We (Sean and I) got to find other climbing partners as well as car pool to Seneca, the Gunks, etc. and the shop got a monthly influx of climbers.

At the height of activity, the Pennsylvania Mountaineering Assoc (PMA) had over 100 members. I was the initial president for a couple of years, Sean handled the news letter.

In terms of my climbing career, I've climbed and bouldered throughout south central PA., Seneca, and the Gunks (my favorite area). Within PA, most of my climbing was done within the Harrisburg then the Mechanicsburg area, mainly Dauphin Narrows, Chickies Rocks for the afterwork or short weekend climbing fix. Around 1982 I teamed up with Tim Garland as my regular climbing partner and we did a lot of exploring and tromping around in the South Mountain area looking for bouldering areas. We also did some exploring in some obscure places in north easter WV.

In 1991 I packed up my family and moved to Colorado. I live within hiking distance of the Flatirons.

In addition to trying to get out to climb (not frequently enougn), I also kayak and teleski.
