It is light enough for everyday wear, but extremely rugged, and designed as an alternative to heavy, clumsy leather hiking boots. This extremely stable, secure shoe has a lace to toe closure that can be worn relaxed, for a long-distance fit, or tightened, for climbing and scrambling. Co-molded Stealth C4/S1 high-friction soles provide the world’s best friction on any terrain.

Camp Four 5 out of 5 stars

Great shoe! I like them better than the Montrail D5's (and I really liked the D5's). I've worn the heck out of them at least 3 days per week, both to and from the rock as well as to and from everywhere else.

On a recent trip to Spain there were so many times I thanked myself profusely for not skimping on approach shoes. The Camp 4's in my opinion are the absolute best you can get and I am sure I came away from the trip without injury because of them. Some of the descents went from hard to downright dangerous and the Camp 4's never slipped once on some slippery and polished rock that would have been terrible to fall from. They never lost shape, felt snug, and at the end of the day looked smart enough for the tapas bars.

I bought these shoes because I wanted something that was lighter than a boot and offered more support than a tennis/running shoe. This shoe fit that bill perfectly. After several trips into the Grand Canyon (with pack weight around 25 - 30 lbs.), 100's of miles of day hikes in the mountains around my house, and numerous backcountry rock climbing approached these shoes are still holding up great. They are not a technical rock shoe, but work great on approaches. The sole is very sticky and still has good grip even when wet.

tight fit 1 out of 5 stars

I have a pair of the original 5.10 guide(high top) approach shoes with dot rubber soles in size 13, and they are roomy and comfortable. I've climbed 5.7 cracks in them. But a size 13 in the Camp Four is way too tight--my toes are touching the front. I don't want an approach shoe that cramps my toes. Unfortunately, 5.10 doesn't make the Camp Four in a size 14. It looks like 5.10 might have taken the Nike approach and shrunk their sizing--I'm not sure why a company would choose to do that since it just creates confusion in the market place.

Great fit and solid construction 4 out of 5 stars

I bought these shoes for a trip to Squamish and they worked great. The fit and finish is perfect, the tread good for hiking, and the manufacturing is solid throughout. My only complaint is that they don't climb well. The heel is ugly, but proves supportive.
