Toes blow out quickly
Review by: MountSinai, 2009-07-26
Good shoes for edgeing and smearing. They begin to smell rather quickly after long use. The toes come apart after a few hard climbing sessions. I would recommend these only for indoor gym climbing, not trad.
Itchy

I bought a pair of these after using leather shoes for a while and did not think they were that great. The heel hooking ability was not that good and they itched like crazy. The rubber is very sticky though and they edge fairly well. We will see how they do over a longer period of time. I would recomend the Mad Rock Flash over these for a begginer.
Not impressed.

Good at heeling, comfortable and convenient. Unfortunately the rubber is a millimeter thick. These lasted under 2 months before the toe blew which makes them easily the LEAST durable shoe I've owned. If Evolv could thicken up the rubber and slap ten extra bucks on the sticker price these would be winners. Unfortunately they fail in the most imprtant catagory. Pay 2x as much for some killer la sportivas and they will last 5 TIMES longer (literally).
Good shoes to start

My first pair of climbing shoes. They fit great, and have great grip. They did wear fast, but i was hard on them. Everyone else is right, these shoes start to smell like a landfill after a hard climbing session. Will definitely avoid velcro in the future; when not climbing, the ends of the velcro straps hook on all kinds of stuff (especially loose rope when belaying) and come undone.
The Defy
Review by: MichaelCohen, 2009-03-17
I owned a pair of Defys for a while before a hole was made in the front from intense climbing. I upgraded to the pontas. If you're a beginner, get these. They are amazing for the money. Very comfy! However, if you are an experienced climber, spring for the Pontas or Anasazi Velcro. Both those shoes are just the Defy but with better edging, more downturn, and more control in general.
