I just bought my 3rd pair in 5 years, I use them for climbing outdoor and indoor, bouldering, hiking, on the beach, snowboarding...traveling...you name it.
The first pair gave up on a leg zipper after years of abuse, the second one got chewed by my harness under the legs. Perfect for climbing, as the temp changes you can unzip or zip up the leg part. Same goes for a quick jump in the river without a swimsuit.
I would only add reinforcements under the legs and a velcro at the end of the legs.

Mine have been really durable so far. The material dries really quickly. They are pretty comfortable under a harness. I dislike how short the shorts are when zipped off. It may be functional but it looks and feels ridiculous. The built in belt is handy if you are on a longish hiking trip and your pant size decreases! I really dislike the shorts. You may as well get both pants and shorts if you like your shorts to the top of your knees or below. The little coin pocket is also useful.

The only positive feature of these pants is the fabric. Very durable, protects your knees from scrapes, drys quickly. Otherwise you'd be better off getting some pants from Old Navy.
1) They use cheap zippers. After a few washings its almost impossible to remove the legs to convert these pants to shorts
2) Pockets are way too deep. When I put anything big in my pocket it drops down to a little over knee level and bangs around when I walk. Unlike all other pants I own, I can't put anything heavy in my pockets.
3) Cargo pockets and hand pockets share the same space. The cargo pockets are simply a piece of fabric sewn on the outside of the hand pockets. If you put something big in the cargo pockets then you can't put anything in the hand pockets, and vice versa. Why even bother putting cargo pockets on pants if they don't offer any more space?
4) Belt buckle is sharp. I have to tuck my shirt in when I'm sitting down, otherwise the sharp little belt buckle cuts into my belly.
All in all I still wear these pants a lot because the fabric is great and the convertible feature is nice, but I would definitely not recommend anyone buy these pants.

I purchased one pair about a month ago and have since purchased 2 more. For hot summer hikes where shorts are not an option these are great. They're light and dry quickly. I like all the pockets expecially the deep front pockets.
