Awesome Harness 5 out of 5 stars

Review by: joslstap, 2012-04-29

I bought the newer version and am in love with it. They added a haul loop to the back and fixed a couple other of the problems that i read about in the previous model. Lightweight and super comfortable.

Super comfortable and light, so far my favorite harness for trad cragging and multipitch routes.

Not so impressed 2 out of 5 stars

I was excited when I needed a new harness to try out the new technology that arcteryx and BD have been working on with harnesses. I settled with the chaos. I've had it and used it regularly (twice weekly) for the past 4 months. I have a couple gripes. First, after having a petzl sama previously, I knew I would need a speed adjust buckle. Well with the chaos, this does me no good if I can't even get it over my butt... The size medium harness cinches all the way down once i wiggle it over my butt. This was never a problem with the petzl. ( Or maybe my butt is the problem?) Secondly and most importantly, the leg loops suck. Plain and simple. While very comfortable initially, after about 3 months of use, the thin band has started to peel back on the inside/back of my thighs when I'm hanging. This leaves me very uncomfortable, even when belaying. Instead of evenly spreading the weight out, like it's designed, it does the opposite and concentrates it on one spot. Needless to say, I'm going back to the Sama as soon as i can't stand the pain anymore... There was nothing wrong with the Sama anyway.

its ok for a basic harness 3 out of 5 stars

pros:
cheap
solid buckle, it never slips
great single pitch harness

Cons:
no haul loop
uncomfortable, it cut in after a while.
floppy gear loops

I have owned this harness for 3 years now and Iam ready to retire it, it warn out. For single pitch sport climbs its is a good harness. The gear loops are a bit floopy so racking up a bunch of gear can be a pain. there is no rear haul loop so I had to rig up some webbing to get a second rope up after me.
the leg loops are cut bad for me, it cuts in fast, hanging belys are painful and my lags fall asleap.
conclusion
single pitch its a fine harness, for any thing else get a more equiped harness.
