Best small screwgate out there 4 out of 5 stars

Review by: ja1484, 2007-05-25

An excellent carabiner. The only reason I don't give it a 5 is the absence of a keylock gate.

The build quality and screwsleeve action are excellent - the sleeve is particularly smooth, precise, and free from slop. You feel like you're working with equipment built by the best.

Also, due to the carabiner's deep basket, it's very secure and there's more room in it than you'd think. Also, the 28kN closed gate strength and 10kN open gate is higher than the majority of carabiners of this type out there.

If you need untouchable security, this is your screwgate. A little more expensive than most, but you get what you pay for.

Good all-round screwgate. I'm going to buy three more now that I've started to lead-climb. Perfect for setting up basic anchors.

Newest biner added to the rack. Great for just about anything, easy gliding screwgate.

This is one of the best biners i have ever bought or used. I love the feel of it in my hands. The gate, like the rest of the action is very smooth, however, the gate is a little stiffer than most other designs, but not enough to matter. I actually prefer it, finding it feels safer. I also like the size to weight ratio. Jakes are so heavy, these have a very similar basket, are narrower, and weigh almost half. Another favorite aspect is that it hangs so well, aligning perfectly along the spine and seldom rotating. My only complaint woud be that the screw lacks the amount of grip found in similar models. I could see this being a problem with gloves.

Definately one of the best general purpose locking carabiners I've used. The carabiner is just a hair smaller than the BD Mini Pair, yet weighs in around the same as a standard biner. The somewhat elongated design allows the basket to swallow hordes of slings, ropes, euiqpment, etc. The hot-forged design feels great in the hand and allows DMM to place metal exactly where it needs to be making the design strong, light, and rope friendly. The gate action is easy to operate with one hand and has a burly sleeve, definately one of the smoothest operating I have used, being substantially smoother than BD's, OP's and Petzl's. Unlike most lockers, these carabiners have a very high minor axis (9 kn) and open gate (10 kn) strength. These lockers are perfect for any type and level of climber, but are probably going to be most appreciated on the Trad or Alpine climbers Rack.
