I purchased this as a second belaying device. Item works great when belaying a heavier partner. Rope feed through the friction side is a little slower, but this device offers much greater control than the standard ATC.

I was never that impressed with this belay device. I never really experienced a noticeable difference in holding power in the high friction mode. I don't think it feeds rope any better than a regular ATC. If anything I think it feeds worse than the regular ATC. Most people will disagree with me...which of course is fine. Maybe I belay at some slightly different angle or something.

Love it for locking off when belaying, hate it for rappelling because it locks off too much due to an unflared tubular design.

Great simple tube-style device with extra friction. Only belay your fat-ass buddies with it on the Extra friction side, or if hanging (or a huge lobber) is imminent. Rap on the smooth side, unless on skinnies. Great for someone who doesn't need an autoblocking device like the reverso.
