underdog 4 out of 5 stars

I bought these shoes a few months ago and they are a great shoe to start on. my only complaint is the toe. I would give them a 5 if the toe was more aggressive.

These shoes aren't bad, especially for beginners. Sometimes I feel like they're boots though, I just don't feel a thing. To some people that might be good, but I like to know when my foot is on a chip or if it's about to bust off. You could probably find these on sale at an EMS for $40 or so, so they're a really popular beginning shoe.

This must be a popular "second pair." I upgraded from MadRock Phoenix, once they got stretched out and worn to the point of feeling like sneakers. So far I have not been disappointed with the Underdog. They are still rather snug, but they will be stretched out in due time. I feel a much greater sense of control with these shoes, whereas the Phoenix basically just made me feel like I had more traction than I would with bare skin. Great upgrade, but definitely not the last upgrade.

Also my second pair of shoes. First pair are Boreal Zyphers. I've only been on 2 routes w/ them, but they perform perfectly. Smearing, edging is great. Tight in the toes, only because I got a half size small.
Haven't tried heel hooking. Great price. Leather upper and slip-last is what drew me to this shoe. That and the C4 rubber. Reminds me of my Boreals only w/ velcro, so I don't have to waste time to untie.I'd recommend these shoes to anyone of any ability.
