Really not good for a first set 3 out of 5 stars

Review by: climberdaved, 2008-03-30

I started my trad rack with a full set of these a year ago, and over the past year I've replaced them with a full set of BD C4s. Sizes 5-8 are light, have a great range, and I trust them completely. They make great seconds for my C4s in the #1-3 range, and are the only ones I recommend. Sizes 0.5-2 have such a narrow range I've never been able to place them, and they're probably only good for aid anyway. Also, the gripping surface of the 0.5-2 is flat and smooth, not indented like the rest of them. I trust #3 and 4 a little more, but I avoid using them when I can. The stem on the #9 is so flexible that it bends when you pull the trigger all the way, preventing the cams from maximum retraction, so when my #9 walked its way into a crack, I lost it. Five stars for sizes 5-8, three for #3, 4 and 9, and zero for the rest. Buying the full set was a waste of money.

I love the smaller sizes. The thumb loop is a requirement for me, and I like the extendable sling. I wish they would make the triple six inch extension like they had talked about. My only dislike is the #8(and larger if I owned it), it walks constantly. I just dont trust it any more.

I have 1 through 3. Splitter design works well, lightweight, well made, hold well. No complaints here! Quality Stuff. I plan on buying the complete set when my funds improve.

I have #5 and #6. I bought them as doubles (due to price initially) to complement my mostly WC rack, but now I reach for them first when those sizes are required. Easier to handle, longer stem, extendable sling.....all in addition to bomber construction and solid feel when placed. Can't wait to get some of the new and improved ones. A great deal for anyone building a rack or just addicted to buying more gear.

I have 1,4,5,6, and two 7's, i love them i personally prefer them to BD's because of weight . never had a problem with them walking, even in out of the way placements where rope drag was of a substancial factor. i wont get the number 8 or nine yet.... but im finishing up the lower sizes and getting doubbles in sizes 1-3.
