This vid is the same director and climbing personalities that did Front Range Freaks. This one is produced quite a bit better but there are still some crappy amateur fades and still way too much of Timmy O'neil beat boxing. Had enough of that in FRF. Biscuit the climbing dog was also rehashed. Pretty much the same sequence you saw in FRF. Timmy ONeil is your host this time around. His face is in the camera for all non-climbing sequences. It's hard pulling on stone or Timmy.

I must say the actual climbing footage is quite a bit better than FRF. The bouldering was amazing and the slacklining was neat too. The camera work was better and the audio was mixed quite a bit better. Not really any wind-in-mic echos from the built-in this time around on handheld cam shots. Just nitpicking but some of the interview footage in Indian Creek was poorly exposed. The sequences were lit from behind and overhead by the sun, blowing out the whites and dimly lighting the personalities faces. I'm betting this was done to keep the beautiful scenery in shot. Next time put up a few lights or get a portable reflector. The base jump sequence was neat but felt similar to FRF. On balance the segments were much more even and paced well. This is now my second favorite climbing vid. Worth renting from Netflix but I wouldn't put down $30 bucks on it.

Happened across this DVD while browsing at Netflix. Turned out to be really interesting. I have so much more respect for the climbers who came before me now. There are definitely some great action segments but a lot of interesting historical background as well. Would have given it a 3.5 if that was an option. Definitely one to add to the rental list!

This was my second climbing dvd (the first was front range freaks). This dvd is very well produced. It made my other climbing vid look like a home video. Dan Osman is amazing. Also loved the amazing crackhouse bouldering sequence. My only gripe was it seemed to be really short. The running length is average for climbing vids but the pace makes it seem like its over very quickly.

This was an alright movie. I disliked some of the segments (did we really need 3 segments of the wasp?), the short segment "view from across the pond" wasn't funny or entertaining. Maybe I just didn't get it. I did like the basejumping sequence, wasn't expecting to see that in the video. Also like the urban ape part the first few times I watched the vid but the novelty has worn off and I just skip past it now. The Derek Hersey piece was far too long. We went from multiple 5-10 minute clips to a 30 minute windbagger. All in all not bad, it has a little bit of everything but doesn't do a spectacular job on any of them. The production is a bit amateurish. Looks like something put together with a Hi8 cam and Adobe Premiere. Seriously amateur titles and fades. Loved the music, but the actual audio and voice dub need work. Masters of stone 5 is much move entertaining and has a much more polished feel to it.

Haven't had any of the coil problems notes here. Mine's been fine. I've put two solid summers into this particular rope and have not had any kinking issues with my ATC. This rope is definitely heavy though. I would have liked to have the middle marked too, but the price is defintely right on this rope.
