Actually you are going through the 5.9 direct variation. Swain's book doesn't describe it very well. The Williams guide is more accurate. The 5.7 is to your right and does a convoluted traverse back left.

That is not the north face you are looking at. It is the Norteast face. The photo is shot from the Mittellegi Ridge (Northeast ridge).

Actually "the fun pitch" mjarrow is referring to is the bomb bay chimney that you are avoiding on the left face variation. You don't need to be "brave" to do it but it is much more strenuous and fun.
