5 out of 5 stars This is, in a single photo, testimony for why the Bay Area is a special place. A sunny mid-January Sunday with a lot of climbers running around in shorts and T-shirts. A genuinely balmy day. Alex had a hellacious pendulum swing today -- swinging almost INTO the cave at right -- trying to do the 5.9 blank face again. But there was a sweet discovery: A new, roundabout approach for her to get on the big crack route. So she came *close* to on-sighting this 5.8 big crack route. The lesson: If you end up somewhere you didn't expect to be on a route, think outside the topo.
