We hiked it from VA Waterfront. That took forever.
Sweet! Now, is that you getting your heel to stick in the background (on the crash pad) or in the foreground (on the rock)? Just kidding! looks like a sick problem, I'm pretty pissed that there's not any good bouldering where I live... :(
is this in Kelowna?
nice blue carpet... :)
That's one sick looking problem... Wish there was climbing like that in my area... :(
That rock looks volcanic... Is it near the ocean?
The Ice caves are always changing as the Glacier advances, so you'll never see the same cave twice. Last time I was out there, there was a long tunnel you could walk through, as big as my living room in places, but also small enough to force you to slip through on your belly in others. The Glacier never ceses to fascinate me. I think it has something to do with the blue color of the ice and the cracking sound it makes when it shifts.
Ohhh... Ahhh... I like...
When I got up there, there weren't any tables... I don't get it...?
I don't get why this was submitted in the photo's area instead of the gear-heads fourm... They look like sick cams, but, um, why here?
almost looks like someone took a photo of some idiots crawling down the highway. Cool pic...
Wish I had boulders like that near where I live...
I didn't take the photo (seeing as that's me belaying...) so you can't blame the sucky camera angle on me. But I did submit the photo without thinking about the fact that it's a double butt shot. Sorry about that...
I miss Africa, I need to get back there. Just seeing this photo makes me want to get tickets...
The snow everywhere makes fora nice touch... Your hands must be cold!
yeah, pretty cool pic. Wish there was rock like that here... :(
Hey! I grew up on Kauai!
Sick. Wish i had climbing like that where I live...
Can't straighten it out, don't have the "high tech" computer stuff to do something like that. I'm low tech.
Well, I like it and I'm wishing that I knew how to do big-walls and such... That would be nice.
What's up with that shadow across the middle of his arm? Camera man's leg? Tree Branch? Cool pic of a fun looking route though.
Wow, that looks super hip. If only I was super rich and I could spend what ever money I wanted to go travel and climb and didn't have to work... I'd be there, man.
who bolts next to a perfectly good crack? I've never climbed it and I'll admit to ignorance, but it just seems to me that if it's protectable, why bolt it?
wow, nice. makes me really want to get on some multi-pitch. Nothing likt that around here unless my wife will let me get out into the ice feilds...
nice butt shot! I've got a few of those in my photo's as well. They're hard to avoid, eh?
No, I think the leader was at a good stance and tied off a few blades of grass and clipped into that thinking, "if I've got enough bad anchors doubled up, that should make one ok anchor, right?"Natural pro is hip, right? :)
Leave trad routes to "real climbers?" Yeah, that's what people have been saying when they ask you to not bolt a crack. Leave the trad routes to the trad climbers... (don't know if I would say "real climbers", sport is fun on slab...)
Nice pic. There's somthing about seeing other climbers fall that inspires me. Perhaps it's because I know that they're pushing their limits. Or maybe it's just that "rubber necker" instinct. Posed or not, gravity still pulled him down. A fall is still a fall with very real potential for danger whether you did it intentially or on accident.
Why is there a bolt to clip next to a perfectly protectable crack?
The pillar looks like a face (with a large chin)looking to the right. pretty cool...
Cool effect. Kind interesting how it looks.
sick, yo. I like the effect man.
Best butt shot I've ever seen. WAY better than the butt shotts I've posted. Man, wish there were climbs like that around here. agree with zozo. High marks.
I think it's cute too... And the funny thing is, my wife's so small, SHE'D fit in that haul bag!
nice bird in the background...
Yeah, and not only is he pretty bad A for the hook placement (which I think is pretty "bold") but I've never even met the guy and I think he's pretty cool. He gets my vote...
Sick shot! I always manage extra rope with a leg, works great!
so my friend sent me this e-mail today. This is what he had to say...
tomorrows forecast is 63 degrees and mostly sunny with not a drop or rain expected.......do you want to climb after work...i think you do...i will now attempt the jedi mind trick. "you want to climb after work. you want to pick up nick from his work and go climbing with him as well as anyone else of your choosing. you love chocolate cake." did it work?
"ill" like hip-hop rappers...
Is this in Cape Town? That looks like Vreedeheok in the background...
You should check the UFO for "aliens". If there's any hybrids, send them to me, I'll investigate them...
you should re-submit it with a higher quality... Sick photo.
One day, I'll have that much gear...
Wow. One day...
Wow, if you could only see the X-terra in the background, you'd have a "million and counting" ad for Nissan...
oh my goodness! That's pretty sweet...
"That's hot" - paris hilton...
There's another stream past the one in the foreground. The little rock to the left behind Jon is taller than I am. So I guess it's more like a 20 rock, but either way, I wouldn't like to fall from the top of the problem...
Nice Bivy shot...
pretty friggin' sweet skirt...
that's a pretty sweet rack. And I thought I was doing good with 14 cams...
nice photo. Man, I really want to do a big wal one of these days...
Ohhhhh..... Um, what is it?
I totally grew up there! I'm from Kauai and I've been to Lumahai heaps of times... :)
big freekin' cam, yo.
Pretty sweet, eh?
Thought it said Sandra Bullock, tha actress... Yeah, nice photo...
Wow. I wish there were climbs like this in Juneau.
Man, I wish I was a climber when I was in Cape Town... Makes me sick.
interesting design. Any idea when these are due out? Months? Weeks? (gasp) years?...
is this from the trip you and T. J. took? Did you guys get any technical climbing in on that adventure?
Two questions... Is this Drew, as in "Drew Money" and is this on the dihedral? doesn't look like any spot on the climb I can think of. (Might be the angle...)
I used to think Aid climbing was cheating, climbing for sissys. Then I started to mess around with it. I just did an aid climb the other night, climbing by headlamp in wet, icy, muddy cracks. It's a line I usually free climb (trad lead) but on aid, it was actually harder! Never again will I doubt aid climbing. It's harder than it looks. Sick photo... :)
that's a sweet pic. I like it...
oh. Nice... I like cracks...
wow, I'm not sure if I would rather climb the tree or the rock..
I've got about another month of weekends that I'm busy, but we should start making plans to explore the potential...
Why are her pants undone?...
Nice attentive belayer...
first of all, Manure pile butress? Has anyone else noticed the irony in this? second, looks like the "face" is breathing fire.
um, that's all sand they're standing on. It was really warm out there last summer.
interesting body position. looks like a fun problem!
wish there were cracks like that in juneau...
looks like a fun crack!
Sic pic. very nice.
Next time you're heading up to Split Thumb, give me more than 4 hours notice... that way, I can plan on comming!
Hey Gordon, do you know what that spire is right above Sean's camera? Is it Rhino Peak? I'd like to investigate it some day...
It was really windy (kabatic winds) but the rock was in the sun so it wasn't cold at all. But note the hard shell pants and the soft shell/hard shell jcaket. gotta keep warm!
I took this photo with such a wide angle because Iliked how the clouds parted right over the glacier. Notice that there's a river of blue above the river of ice...
check my profile pic.
Yeah, what Treez said...
2 more weeks... 2 more weeks... 2 more weeks...
Let's book the heli ride and get out of here!
The crack for sure. i'm gonna try it. 5.12, huh? Time to see if I can sack up and pull a line that hard with gear...
How in the wide world did this photo get such a high rating? There's no rock in the shot, no one's climbing, the scenery isn't even interesting. I simply don't get it...
Man, it's a real good thing you've got that crash pad, that would be a real scary fall!
Hey, I think I've got that same shirt! Mountain hardware, right? that's a lot of choss in the background...
wow, good thing you've got that crash pad, you're REALLY highballing there. holy crap!
what is that, like 2 whole feet?!
sweet line... what's the rating?
and was the "alan's crack" refering to the line or the butt shot? :)
what about ashley???
What? nothing bigger than a #3? that's pretty little...
are you guys referring to the sunburn? yeah, it looks like a hot day indeed.
that is one awesome looking climb. hosh.
one of the best I've ever seen on this site. I'd take a poster of that on my wall.
ha ha! looks like he's climbing a butt-crack!! ha ha!!
is that a highball or a roped climb?
first thing I noticed? his shirt. looks like he's got a half a watermellon or something on his chest...
wow, nice pic...
Yeah, the first thing I noticed about this photo is the guy's shirt...
what the crap? Is that a dollar bill peaking out from behind your shirt? ; [ hosh.
and protect big cracks. (unless you have a small view of the world...)
Pretty cool. There's lots of those just a 10 minute drive and 20-30 minute walk from my front door! :)
starry starry night... paint your pallette blue and grey...
Super style points for the hat.
Yeah, if he turned around, you'd see his beer gut and change your mind on the photo!
nice shorts and socks man.
Man, I'd rate this photo higher, you're not clipping any bolts or anything... Maybe you should get a prAna beanie or something and I'd give it a higher rating...
Don't move to Alaska. The rock sucks. And there's NO alpine climbing. Or Glaciers. Or multi pitch. Or perfect granite spires...
Hey Turtle, I bet that 4.5 Camalot came in handy on a slab, eh?
You do know that "on belay" is different than "I'm taking a photo right now", right? :)
perhaps post this photo to www.cuteoverload.com? just an idea...
An excellent picture showing this climb. Good on you!
I don't know... I think this pic makes me want to start a cult following for you...
The crack to the left is Damper, right? Loved that route!
hey, thanks for posting this pic so quickly! I had an excellent time climbing J-tree with you!
hey, at least the gear on the ground is neatly organized, right?
Very nice photo. I like the movement.
why is she wearing make up?
nice. I like the look of the OW to the left as well...
I love that those forged friends are still on your rack and i've placed them!
beautiful man, just beautiful. Thanks for finding this spot for the rest of us!
a nice crack on a sport climb? nice... I hope there's not bolts near that crack...
I didn't like... It was like slacklineing with crampons on a glacier... note the lack of pro between me and the belayer, notto mention the fact that he's busy taking pictures instead of belaying...
Oh, and m_o_n_s_t_e_r, the guy you're lookin at is Justin, I'm down lower in the mist, trying to get back in the sunlight...
Sweet... Now does Jacik know that you weren't belaying him when you were taking a pic of Justin and I?
With such a nice natural rock ledge, why bother setting up the portaledge at all?
What is going on with the belay device? Is the knot on the sharp end? and if it is, then what the heck?
Why does the face look photo-shopped?
wow, that shot is sweet!
crap! That's sweet!
Desk top at work so all my co-workers who have to share my hovel can see this and enjoy as well...
Phalic symbol anyone?
hosh  this photo.
I love this crack. I would like to have it sent to my house. Could we arrange this?
Like a deer in the headlights? sweet pic, cool "lighting"...
He's just a traveling n00b who experiments with cutting edge n00b techniques.
I would also like a poster of this pic. I like the facial expression and the fact that that crack is sown up nice and tight...
I'm sorry, but this photo SUCKS. She's what, 7 inches off the ground? It's a good thing she's got those TWO crash pads, just in case of what? A fall from that height? Wow. The problem doesn't look hard, or intersting, or even like it's more than 3 or 4 moves. Why would you even stop walking for a pile like that? And once you did stop walking, why would you burn film on it? If what you were really looking for was soft climber porn, you could have done better taking pictures of that girl as she walked down the trail, that as least might have been more interesting. Again, I apologize, but this picture is pretty weak.
Is that the "red/white" route? (ie, are those holds taped?)
One day, my son will be following dad on a choss pile like that! But It's my hope that he'll be learning to clean cams at the same time! "Monolithic Biavicide..." Figure it out...
You should rotate the pic, it'd look like he's free-soloing a sweet chimney!
Hey Kate, is that a brillo pad behind you on a purple tent pole? Cleaning hard to reach pots and pans on a big-wall solo? Guess some people like a clean camp site eh? :)
I like that the photog is wearing flip-fops on the rock. Nice touch by the photog...
If it's the Dan Moller cabin, that's not any where near the towers...
Man, I'd loke to give that a try one day... Looks like a beast!
I would love to give that crack a go on lead... Looks pretty interesting!
Fitz, beat me to it... Lame.
Yeah, what if it walks out of that placement? Then you're screwed...
I think I'm in love... droll....
My wife got me a cam for V-day a few years back. But as you're building a trad rack, that's a GREAT place to start! One of the best peices on my rack, for sure!
Is that a Max Cam on the right?
In Chacos, nonetheless... Nice style! Welcome to Rockclimbing, have you considered trad? It's the "way" :)
I see two faces in the rock to Tommy's lower left... Interesting...
Wow Matt, I bet this gym would be better if there were better scenery. Maybe you should photoshop some power plants or a bustling city. I think the beautiful Alaskan mountain range really takes away from the ambiance of the Alaskan gym... Too bad. Just a crying shame.
Hells yeah! I was logging on and this was on the front page! This is my home gym in Juneau Alaska and it is a SUPER cool gym. Now if I could only get more time off from work so I could climb... (Note the super sweet roof climb)
Walls are wood. Matt used to have a real time camera on the web site, might still be there... I love this gym!
PS, wearing a helmet in a gym? That's like wearing a seat belt on your couch. Just not necessary... I simply don't get these pictures you've posted. Don't get them at all...
I'm sorry, but are you dry tooling in a gym? And is it really necessary to have the prussic's in a gym? Do a lot of ascending on those toprope problems? I just don't get it... And it's a butt shot. Huh?
Didn't see Kramer last time I was in there. Is he still alive?
That feature rips. It's super fun to climb on, providing the routes are set well. It's a super fun climb...
Um, I don't remember "struggling" to stay atop here...
frickin' godron! Always taking pictures on belay! What the heck!?
Good on you for making due with what you've got. But I'm still a little sad for you that you're leading trad on a man made wall... But if that's all you've got, then that's all you've got!
I love my son. He'll be joining me on a wall someday, I can hardly wait!
I love offwidths. Love them. And yes, that cam looks a little small for the placement, no?
It's all about the tongue...
Thank you thank you thank you thank you! I've been dreaming of seeing a good shot of this crack like, forever! I love the wide stuff and this looks like the consummate OW. I'd love to give it a burn one day...
That crack is nice and all, but what's the OW to the right? Looks like fun, starts wide then ends in maybe off-hands? Any info on that beast?
Nice. just my style, I'd like to punish myself on this one day, though I don't think I'd be able to complete it...
DOesn't get much better than that, climb up, slack across, lather, rinse, repeat...
Looks like a lot of good cracks in that area... Seems like a fun crag.
I love the OWs. I like to see them on the front page...
I love it. One day, I will punish myself with this crack. One day... Chico? wanna suffer on that?
Believe it or not, I actually like to find myself in situations where a jacket like that is necessary...
Your sister is a pretty good artist...
wait, did you already climb or are you going to climb?
you can almost feel the positive vibes from that spotter...
Where I'm from, trees are "off"...
Brave to post a picture of your nakie hiney on the internet...
The best part of the OW crack is the ankle breaker rock in the landing zone. It's as if God Himself knows that OW climbers like to punish themselves...
Looks like the "cop" is looking to "bust" the "hooker"?
Nice shot of a cam in action... Nice!
This climb is on my "maybe one day I'd like to give it a try" list. One can only dream!
Wow, knots for pro. That's pretty sketch, but super truck...
I will, if you'll provide me with the cams to keep for my efforts... ;)
Yeah, what's with the great ratings for a super bad pic?
If this was a trad problem, there would only be one person at the base, and they would be eating a ham sandwich, waiting for the climber to place some gear before they start belaying... Do you really need that many spotters?
Yeah, front page? Really?
Wow, if I had a dollar for every time I've been on a glacier and wished it was rock... Look at that splitter crack to the right of the climber!
I don't think I've ever been so bummed out by the death of a total stranger. Lame.
At least she's not making the stupid "MySpace" lips. I frikin' hate that...
So glad I clicked on this. From the thumbnail on the front page, it looked like the tree in the background was a flowing mullet on the groom. Looked like something out of a bad 80's glam rock album cover.
Congratulations on the wedding, hope you twos have a happy marriage!
Looks like a WC rock on wire... ?
There's a great slot for a smallish cam at the top of the chimney. I think I put a red Alien in there. Loved that climb!
I love the gloves hanging off the haul loop...
WOW. I read through the blog spots as well, that looks like a stout OW. I love it!
I am so stoked to see all the OW's on the front page lately. Seems that this kind of climbing is gaining popularity!
on a rock climbing forum? I'm so confused...
I like the free-solo aspect. Adds to the "danger" of the image.
I love the wide angle of the lens!
@MKeech: Don't know where this picture originates from, but those are XTRA Tuffs, the standard footwear in South East Alaska. Also known as "South East Sneakers"
Nice! I like that you're climbing that well with no legs!
Where is this?
looks like the flapper on your finger is giving you the finger...
