OK, that looks painful.....
I think your belayer had one too many cocktails on the trip in....:-)
Make that VERY short term.... it totally kicked my butt....have to figure out a better way to send this one...my short little legs just couldn't handle it that day....
Yes, I always consider that a plus.....:-)
One technical error at a time is my motto :-)
;-) any time......
Ah, just some guy I picked up at the park....
it's a great picture, isn't it? camoaero sent it without using the arete or flake nearby...
Before anyone comments, let me please say that I was not holding onto the rope for climbing assistance---it was caught on a ledge above, and I was trying to clear it before I went any further.....
I find that holding onto the rope and having my belayer pull me all the way to the top is a lot faster than that pesky climbing stuff.... :-)
Actually that's just a complete coincidence. The chalk bag and the shoes aren't even mine....
At least you started from the bottom, and not three bolts up :-)
That's my magic finger...I keep that in reserve until I really need to kick some rock a$$....:)
For some reason, I always feel the need to explain to people, when I'm showing them this picture, that I am actually hanging on the boulder, not stepping on the ground.....
Positive...this was only about an hour into my first climbing day....
Well, this route was also my first-ever climb, about two months ago, and I guess I took it for granted for just second....that's all it takes to go tumbling down, huh??
....you'd think I'd be a pro by now, if that were the case! :)
Is it me, or does this look like an ape???
I'm guessing that would be painful if he fell.....
iclimb = anonymous coward...very classy, way to be...
Puts it all in perspective, doesn't it?
not saying i don't agree there, but does it really deserve a ONE?!?!!?
What a view!
Beautiful, almost haunting.....
Agreed! BTW, I think you have some dirt under your fingernails. :-)
vertigo here we go
...that must help explain how aussies always get the girls....knock a few teeth out, and bingo bango, here come the chickies....
Actually it wasn't my first full day of climbing, but my second.....I had never even been the gym (yet), and still I managed to lead--what a miracle ;-)
It was coming through the upper window at the gym, just before sunset. The photographer was standing on the mezzanine looking out over the gym. You can see his shadow just above my left thigh....
I hate to burst anybody's bubble, but I DO have another top on underneath that black one...but because it's yellow and the picture is washed out, you can't see it, I guess....sorry fellas! :-)
....kachoong digs deep to find the waning years of his youth....
Really great shot....wonderful color, good composition, brilliant clarity, all that jazz....wow....
Carrots, huh? They say carrots are good for your eyesight, and I believe it...
Despite his desperate pleas to the contrary, the group just wouldn't hold the elevator door for Andy....
You look like you're running up that wall.....
....two words for you....Gil....ette......
...and when you're done giving safety lessons, lightandfast, perhaps you can take an English class and relearn some of the grammar and spelling skills that seem to elude you.....
...and where is your helmet there, davey boy?!?!?
Not sure who makes the holds, but they were awesome...best ones in the gym....super texture and great color. Hook 'Em Horns!!! :-)
I'm sure Rachel wouldn't be caught dead sportin' two-dollar flip-flops from Old Navy....but who knows, she DID *star* in the new Gilligan's Island, so she's obviously in the waning years of her career....LOL
umm...er....uh.....yeah....well, no excuses, some of us are just pansies and need all the Powdered Courage we can carry!! :-)
I'll keep that in mind next time I'm on the cover of Urban Climber....LMAO....
Hey Michelin Man, you're hot.....
*....but luckily we weren't fooling around....*
...or climbing.... ;-)
...well i must be really freaking ugly then, 'cause Dave's "bombed" photos are doing better than ALL of my photos!! LMAO :)
...that looks like a disembodied hand and forearm...very cool pic, Phil....
Well, cams can be quite persuasive creatures, you know...LOL....
...a 10...but who's the ugly guy in the back??? ;-)
No....but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.....(that was for boulderror)
Tiny but sexy :-)
elvislegs---That's his hand....look at how distorted the rest of his features are.....HUGE hands, tiny feet...you know, kinda like a circus freak....only cuter...slightly....
...and zozo, a lady never hurls and tells!!! :-)
I just want everyone to know that that is NOT my hairy arm on the rock....I know it looks like that at first, but that's actually Dave's appendage, not mine....so to speak...:-)
Awww, what a cute pup!! Worn that cone more than once, I see!!
OMG, that water is beautiful!! I'm jealous!
coldclimb, is that you?!?! :-)
Yeah--he's porky these days....guess those days of eating Top Ramen and hot dogs are long gone for the Family Irwin.
As soon as you find Itchy, you're in business....
I've heard climbing's much easier if you keep your eyes open...but what do I know, I'm a newbie...:-)
There were several of us climbing the route that day, and so he was tied in to the end of one rope and trailing the another for the next climber to TR with....
Ummm......you're so f*cking hot!!
it's a big man climbing a slabby rock
My god, you are the most handsome man in the world...*sigh*....
No kidding "cheeky"...I look like a chipmunk....
That's not actually a blacked-out background, Taddie, it's the bouldering mat...but yeah we talked about that when we first saw the picture...I guess next time, I'll just have to climb with no pants on...you know, for the sake of science and all....:-)
The muscles in your back echo the shape of the rock....very cool....
As they say, opinions are like a$$holes...everybody has one, and most of them stink!!! :-)
...and cold on the feet!!! Bbbrrrrrr!!!
Not for long, I assure you...:-)
Agreed, dynosore...in fact, I think the both landscape and weather were quite beautiful that evening. I'm kinda partial to the climber, too, though ;-)
Nope...There were a few of us climbing the route that day, so just I tied in partway through the rope...
Nice pic, the shadow is very cool, but the size is too distracting...you lose something when you have to scroll up and down to see the whole pic...good pic, though!
Well, I did I try to convince Kachoong to lay across the gap for me, so I could walk on his back, but he just wouldn't do it...*sigh*....he was pretty amused, however, watching me rock my hands back and forth from wall to wall as I "walked" forward...like a midget with a bad hip....
Wow, I knew I wasn't tall or anything, but that picture makes me look downright stumpy!! :-)
And by the way, my butt is not really that big...that's my chalk bag....I swear....
LMAO...I was being facetious because the rope is hidden behind my legs. I would never solo something as measly as a 5.8 anyways...*pppssshhaaawww*
So what if it is? Upset because you can't grow one of your own? :-P
I think this is my favorite wedding picture, by far....*grin*
uuuummmmm...ouch. I think I just threw up in my mouth a little....
No, not really!! Look at my belay device and chalk bag...the picture was actually taken horizontally, but I had to rotate it for accuracy....don't be fooled by the crooked trees! :-)
I'm not sure *exactly* where it is, but it's just outside the town of Pale, near Sarajevo. If you want specific directions, drop me a PM, and I can put you in contact with the guy who drove us there.
Well, it was probably closer to seven or eight quickdraws linked together... :-)...the gentleman that you see just behind them had his family with him at the crag that day, and his little girls were having fun playing around with the equipment.
Is that burnt orange I see you wearing??!? :-P
Beautiful colors....I also like the diagonal line that the eye follows when you look at this. Great shot, babe!
Not naming any names or anything, but I think for someone who may, or may not, make their living as a professional photographer to bomb this photo is kinda...well...crappy. Especially considering the backstory!!! Congratulations to the happy couple from the rest of us, anyhow!! :-)
Nope, that's just trick photography...it was bone dry that day, though not for lack of trying on the thundercloud's part.
I'm looking forward to it, Jay. Me and the old man are planning to hit the Rendezvous this year for sure! Of course, if work has other plans to the contrary......*shrug*...LOL
Cute! Too bad you can't see your little toddler face, though! LOL
Good pic...she looks surprisingly calm for her first climb. You might advise her to take off the bracelets next time, though. :-)
Funny, but looks photoshopped IMHO....esp the blue holds in the middle....we'd have to see the full-res version to know for sure, I guess. *shrug*
What a beautiful shot, Phil!
Dere's dem hibiscus-print board shortz agin!!
You need boat, mister? Where you go?
Cute pic, you look happy! :)
I like the artistic feel of it....
Beautiful colors; you look very composed and calm. I also love that you're wearing a helmet in ALL of your pictures! You go girl! :-)
Ah yes, the temple of the giant wooden phalluses....always tasteful! :-)
...that looks like an old Guns-n-Roses t-shirt.....rad
I look pregnant in that picture! LOL!!
...those cats were fast as lightning....
Maybe that's "the challenge", Jay, as his tag says! You gotta figure it out! Although obviously the teensiest clue would probably be helpful.... :-)
Very colorful--looks fun
Arrogant_Bastard iz serios. Dis is serios face.
I normally don't like to vote on my own pics, but since someone is a meanie and voted my hubby TWO STARS, I gotta do my part! :-)
Doesn't seem that "inaccessible" to me! But it does give it a catchy nickname! ;-P
If memory serves, I bet that hurt! ~yeeoowwch~
Tiny bit blurry, but I love the perspective on this one....
Wow, what a sense of space!
Ha ha! Unique angle!
Great shot! The rock looks beautiful, almost surreal. And I love the intense look on Megan's face. And best of all, yeah for wearing a helmet!! :-) You go, girl!
I love that the shadow is the first thing that pops out at you....
...gets prettier every time I look at it....
Bwwaahahaha! At least you guys aren't being obvious with your synchronized photo-bombing! LOL!!
"this isn't post-cutesie-couple-pics.com. Its rockclimbing.com"
So many sour grapes around here, we oughta start our own wine label!!! :-)
Hahaha, it's like Where's Waldo! Awesome colors!
It's not a bad pic at all, and it was taken from an interesting angle...'twould be nicer if a bit bigger, though...
And no, I'm not being bitchy by giving you a 1. I simply wanted to retract the 5-stars and the comment I made previously, but it turns out I can only do one of the two thanks to the "upgrade" on the site. Sorry.
Thanks, Tom! That is classic!
It's surprising to me how many people take pics like this as an affront, as though we're doing it specifically to spite them.
Climbing is a huge part of our lives, and it doesn't begin and end when we call "Off-belay"!
And after all...if you don't like the pic, hit refresh and move on!! :-)
Interesting perspective on the picture; just wish we could see your hands and feet completely. What part of Sarajevo were you climbing in? Up near Pale?
I'm not sure of the name of the cliffs, but I did climb a little in Pale. There was the smaller cliff (http://www.rockclimbing.com/photos/Topo/Pale_crag_79524.html) and then a bigger wall--just above a cave? I don't remember the name of it, but it is where they have tours and stuff, up a very steep staircase. Does that sound familiar?
Are you from Bosnia originally?
"..and if they hate, let 'em hate"....you go girl! I think it looks like fun!
