yes.. they make you wear a helmet if you are leading. It is a college gym. I feel like it is a bit lame too, but it does teach good safety habits to people who have never climbed before.. As a climber I have seen people deck, and have friends that have taken large rocks to the head and barely survived. A helmet is a good thing...
your comments are not constructive or helpful. If you are wondering why he is doing a dyno to a hanging pinch.. It is because he thought it would be a fun thing to do in a gym, you will not find a route like this anywhere in nature. if you are wondering why he is wearing a helmet. Well it is primarily a beginner gym and they try to use all safety tricks they can. helmets are a good idea always... that said i never wear one..
You are right there are many pinch dynos out there all over the world. What you will not most likely see, is a pinch hanging from a peice of cord swinging in the wind. If you did, it would be famous for being the most manufatured route ever.
Well rup, Ohio State University like all other gyms on earth use route setters. That is how the plastic holds get put on the walls and move around from time to time. The fellow in the pic is a student that works for the gym and sets routes. The setters have free range to set what they want. As for tooting of horns the photo was for the competition, the small description was to explain a bit of what was happening in it incase it was not apparent. I appoligize for not specifying more clearly the school involved. I did not think it was all that important. I am a climber not a photographer, but I do think it is the best photo taken in a gym posted on this site that I have seen so far.
