My bet is the Chugach Mountains, when coming from Anchorage you see the Chugach Mountains until you get around the Turnagain arm and are heading toward the first pass you see the Kenai Mountains. From your description this picture is not of the Alaskan Range, that's north of Anchorage. Do you remember what mile marker you were at when you took the picture, or what town you were near? Hope this helps
