Agree, but I'm pretty sure that in 1988 bolting cracks in indonesia was acceptable. If they couldn't afford shoes, do you think they could afford pro? I'm saying that comparing to how climbing was in Brazil back then. We don't accept new bolted craks but the old ones mark an era.
The pic is great!! I love it...

>>"First of all give them some slack guys...they are in Brazil"
What do you mean by that????????????
Yes, the pic S*ck big time, but that is not related to the fact that he is in Brazil. The pic is bad cause the climber is a noob learning how to climb dihedrals (I know that cause this route is used a lot by guides for that end) and the cause photographer is a noob. But there are noobs in both areas anywhere in the world. Half the content of this site proves that.

>>"Second...It looks as if the thing in the back ground is sitting on the ground which would make the climb....horizontal?"

NO, the 'thing' on the background is a cement structure to prevent the huge flake from falling. This wall is near a urban area. The fall of this flake could destroy a lot.

About the bolt: Give them some slack the bolt was placed in the 70's before good pros were accessible and before an ethical committee came to suggest it shouldn't be placed on cracks.

Did you climb it?
My parents went there and a guide told them that any climbing is prohibited on the island.

5 out of 5 stars Marc almost got it. Not a piton, not a single one at all. It is a brazilian bolt, it's shape resembles a piton but has as 1/2" diameter and requires a drilled hole to be placed. It is brown cause it is old.
The video shows her doing the "easy" start (7c+ FR) the picture shows her on the hard initial boulder of the 8a+ variant.
