The reason it is called the thumb
I always wondered why it was called the thumb, until I made it to the 2nd pitch of Pentapitch (on the opposite side of the canyon) and stopped for a break. Perspective made all the difference. From the canyon floor it more resembles a pyramid or a really bad triangle. What appears to be the top is actually the knuckle. From this angle, you cannot call it anything but "The Thumb". With this shot you can also see most of the routes. Hope this gives you the same "cool!" that I got. - "The Thumb", Little Cottonwood Canyon, SLC, Utah.
