Stretching out on the face next to the dirty crack. This is one of the many ways to climb up to the tree ledge, where a bunch of the 3 pitch top-out routes start. If you are going to Stone, climb this instead of the "entrance crack" (a hellish off width)

My friend Andy belaying me on the 1st or 2nd pitch of the Great Arch at Stone Mt., NC. I really like how you can see the texture of the rock at the bottom of the photo. My first post and I'd really appreciate any comments/pointers.

This is one of the few non-retarded photos I've ever taken. An easy route with perfect protection on beautiful rock - this is my ideal climb!

Mike is about to the shuts, although this is a relatively short pitch, he was unable to place any gear. Not bad for a first lead, good job Mike!

Never mind the 5.5 rating, leading this long two-pitch route was a highlight of my trip to Stone Mountain. This exposed second pitch has no real protection apart from a single bolt halfway up the 150 feet of slab climbing. By the time I reached the top, I felt like I'd accomplished something! Even though it was mid-october, the weather at Stone Mountain was perfect. We were calling across the face to the other climbers, barely raising our voices. The acoustics across the rock are amazing.

Mike and I became heros to a group of Brownies who were out at the park for a trip. They were yelling at us from the meadow, and when I waved back at them, it sounded like a rock star (heh) had just come on the scene. We ran into them on the way down, and had to answer questions for a few minutes. Their chaperones said we had made their day, along with a semi driver who had honked at them on the way up.

After a long day of climbing, it's a rewarding feeling to reach the summit and savour the trip back down the the car. The walk over the top of Stone Mountain is always interesting because of the craters in the rock from from years of water. You can sometimes see little critters swimming around in them.
