Looking into the jaws - where is our route?!

Average Rating = 0.00/5 Looking into the jaws - where is our route?!

Looking up into the gaping gargoyle-esque jaws in the area of Voie Des Croulants. We climbed up into those scary maws three times on three different lines, but never did find the route!

We made it!

Average Rating = 0.00/5 We made it!

Happy to be alive on solid ground, without the sea nipping at our heels! Julia and I have just finished the circumference of the Castelvieil peninsula: Traversee Ramond linked to Traversee Sans Retour. Was supposed to be one - but turned into a *two* day adventure!

Going a little nuts!

Average Rating = 0.00/5 Going a little nuts!

Most of the way through the day. Look at that crazed look in my eyes - perhaps I knew in the back of my head that I wasn't going to make it? At any rate, I'd just discovered a hole in the rock I needed to tunnel through.

Back on route!

Average Rating = 0.00/5 Back on route!

After spending the night in cold cramped quarters, we managed to get past the most difficult part of Traversee Sans Retour, and we're happy to be back on route - we knew at this point that we were going to make it.

The tough part!

Average Rating = 0.00/5 The tough part!

This particular traverse is not officially on Traversee Sans Retour, but damned if I know where the *official* route goes! On the left side of the photo is the end of the grovelly bit which was a sort of extension of our bivvy ledge, then there's moderate free climbing until you get to the pillar just to the left of where the climbers are standing. The next eight feet or so is bolted very closely for aid. Note: In the guidebook, this is labeled "Le Fjord" in the photo.

I have to sleep where?!

Average Rating = 3.33/5 I have to sleep where?!

Check out that crazy look in her eyes! Maybe Julia is thinking about how many days you can survive without water? This unplanned bivouack was the first in the climbing career of both Julia and me. Understandable that she might be a little unnerved!
