Rob Reflecting on Russell SummitWe did the 3rd class route up to the summit. Four of us made it to the first summit and then 3 made it to the higher, second summit. Gabe and I did this route to help acclimate for our climb up Whitney which was to follow the next day. Sarah and Rob did the route just 'cause! It was a beautiful day and the 3rd class ascent was great!

Bill following MithralYes, this climb is as beautiful as it looks from the ground. I thought it was going to be sustained pumpy stuff, but really it is just "take your time 5.9". Really, it isn't that hard, and if there IS a 10a section, it is at the top of the dihedral, and only lasts for like 2 moves. Beautiful route, definately my top 3 favorite!!!! Nice to get started at 10am too (due to shade in the morning).

Pitch 4 on the Fish HookThe Fish Hook Arete on Russell (14,008 ft) is one of the classics of the California Sierras. It has great views, great granite, and my French climbing partner "Eric" was sporting great attitude also!! What a fine day, too bad he is moving to Ohio.

Northeast Face of Mt RussellMt. Russell boasts some fine alpine granite, including the northeast face. The east ridge from the Russell-Carillon Col is an airy third class venture well worth the approach.
