The Butt Problem

Another geological oddity in the Grand Canyon. Located at Dripping Springs off the Bouche' Trail; this V1 involves slopers and one sinker pocket!

Grand Canyon just before the Floods

Average Rating = 3.33/5 Grand Canyon just before the Floods

As the first rain starts to fall Johanna is pondering whether to go for a hike or wait a little longer. 12 hours later the biggest storm in years had ruined many trails and left dozens stranded in the Canyon, but left us with some nice pics. Picture by Harald Swen.

Lil monster (Kaitlyn) at Mather Point

Average Rating = 3.00/5 Lil monster (Kaitlyn) at Mather Point

Finally got up to the Grand Canyon with my fiance, the mother-in-law-to-be, and my step-daughter. It's pretty cool when the non-stop ramblings of a 4 y/o come to a screeching halt and are reduce to a single word. "Wow."

Fire on the Rim

Average Rating = 3.93/5 Fire on the Rim

After backpacking down the Nankoweap Trail we set up camp near the Colorado River. When looking out from camp toward the rim (over a mile up) on the second day, we caught this view of the smoke from a forest fire on the rim, the crescent moon on the left, and the silhouette of Mt. Hayden in the center. Although we were worrired about our cars on the rim, the sight was truly awe inspiring. The pic doesn't do it justice. Photo by Frank Fischer.

The Best approach

Average Rating = 0.00/5 The Best approach

Walk from the parking lot down to the overlook favoring the left hand railing. Once at the bottome of the stairs, hop the left (north) railing and follow a faint path along ridge till it fades. Keep going and keep te draw to your left. Look for a rock caren to mark the drop in point. Head left down steep dirt till the gulley bottom. You can't miss the fixed rope. Once at the bottom, turn right and stay close to the cliff bottom for less pain. Eventually you will find the shale. WEAR THICK LEATHER GLOBES, CARHARTT'S, AND JACKET.

Topping the Grand Canyon

Average Rating = 3.33/5 Topping the Grand Canyon

Lincoln Westfall topping the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. This fun shot was taken on a beautiful day by my best bud Dave Dixon on August 7, 1999 during our wild 10-day 5000-mile road trip from our homes in Nashville, Tennessee out through all the big parks out in Arizona, Utah, Wyoming, and back. Just some exploring and bouldering and messing around, but we got some nice pics along the way! Hope this doesn't look like I'm trying too hard. :) My sister Desiree is the real climber in the family, actually - her recent photo from pinscar is still near the top of the ratings for photos from the last three months! Love ya Des! :) Peace, Safe climbing and a Happy New Year to all!
