Mt. Hoods shadow during sunrise from Hogsback (Aug. 14-2005)We stared up at 1 a.m. to beat the heat and slushy snow. Made it up to the Hogsback by sunrise, and the pearly gates weren't so pearly. But the shadow of Hood was interesting. It covers up the city of Portland. An easy route in summer. Summit is worth the slog.

Sunset and storm brewing on Lethoulds ColSaw this massive cloud formation rolling in from the West, and figured we were going to get some serious weather - or at the very least some intense wind. Well, we got the wind, but not precipitation. Cold evening, but beautiful.

Chris and Ben on Summit @ 8:23Great climb up the mountain! Felt a little silly climbing with a bumblebee, but no one seemed to notice. Met a few great folks from Washington on top as well, and all basked in the brilliance of nature. The view from the top is breathtaking - definately one of my favorite summits!

Name that MountainThis is an ariel shot of Mt Hood (foreground) Mt rainier (Back Left) and a third peak (not sure which one is that) while flying from Portland, OR Airport. Can anyone tell me which mountain is that? I am guessing its Mt Adams.

Summit of Mt. HoodThis is a shot looking across towards the lower side of the summit ridge on Mt. Hood. It was a super nice day out and the summit was a great display of shadow/light.

Looking down the HogsbackThis photo is looking down the Hogsback right after sunrise, in June of 2004. The conditions were good at the time but probably got pretty slushy after a few more people came through and broke the firm layer of snow on top. Angle was at 42deg. and it was a nice morning all around.

More glacier non-action.So yeah while we were coming up we noticed dozens of of climbers coming down carrying ropes, pickets on other large amounts of gear. I can't figure it out, during the summer you really can climb Hood in pair of shoes and shorts. All that other shit just looks so silly.. Why do people lug all the stuff around? For practice? to make it safe? Crazy..

Suz taking a break on the glacierLazy kids that we are, we didn't start climbing till about 11:00 AM so we didn't have time to summit. On the plus side we had an amazing ski run down. I love summer skiing.
