My friend Andy belaying me on the 1st or 2nd pitch of the Great Arch at Stone Mt., NC. I really like how you can see the texture of the rock at the bottom of the photo. My first post and I'd really appreciate any comments/pointers.

This is one of the few non-retarded photos I've ever taken. An easy route with perfect protection on beautiful rock - this is my ideal climb!

Mike and I became heros to a group of Brownies who were out at the park for a trip. They were yelling at us from the meadow, and when I waved back at them, it sounded like a rock star (heh) had just come on the scene. We ran into them on the way down, and had to answer questions for a few minutes. Their chaperones said we had made their day, along with a semi driver who had honked at them on the way up.

After a long day of climbing, it's a rewarding feeling to reach the summit and savour the trip back down the the car. The walk over the top of Stone Mountain is always interesting because of the craters in the rock from from years of water. You can sometimes see little critters swimming around in them.

View looking down from the first belay of the Great Arch (5.4?). This was the only almost-completely dry pitch of the route, this was also the only pitch of the route in which we weren't plagued by thousands of ladybugs. Seen below is the tree ledge from which many of the routes start on Stone Mtn.

This is me as I scurry up the Great Arch (5.5) on Stone Mountain, NC on what happens to be the hottest day of the year. It gives you an idea of what bacon feels like but the climb was excellent (obviously not crowded as people with sense stayed indoors) and a great day 20030827.
