Moonset over the Buttermilks

Average Rating = 3.25/5 Moonset over the Buttermilks

Woke up early one morning in July while vacationing in the Buttermilks to work on the Iron Man Traverse. I caught a glimpse of the moon setting over the mountain range and grabbed my camera. Just as I hit the shutter, one of the few climbers brave enough to boulder in the dry 97F heat of Bishop wandered into frame. At the time I thought he'd ruined the shot but it turned out pretty well. I later learned his name was Theo. His family came up to Iron Man for a few burns before we retreated to the waterfall oasis. Photograph taken with a Nikon FM2, f/5.6 @ 1/1000s.

Milkin' some easy slab

Average Rating = 3.50/5 Milkin' some easy slab

This shot was taken near the end of our road trip at the Buttermilks. We had a great day climbing easy slab problems and scramblin on the nearby peaks.

You won't make a hero of yourself...

Average Rating = 3.90/5 You won't make a hero of yourself...

...by pulling the moves on Hero Roof (weighing in at a mighty V0), but it's still a beautiful line. When you're facing Ironman, turn left almost 180 degrees and it's right there.

Fun in the sun

Average Rating = 3.00/5 Fun in the sun

Dave M. and myself airband an impromtu concert one sunny day for a group of girls from Truckee and other climbers peering from behind boulders, complete with antics. We got some claps. This pic is actually on a underground CD we made of our high school rock band from 1985-1988 called The Brik Shiite Shak. We called the CD 'Finally....Live in California.' You can take a climbing break and log onto our website which has the address in my personal profile page.Be afraid! We then continued to boulder at this amazing place!

Mike Doyle on Soulslinger

Average Rating = 4.07/5 Mike Doyle on Soulslinger

Soulslinger is a great problem located in the Buttermilks area of Bishop, CA. This photo was taken in late April, 2003. As you can see it was beautiful and sunny but quite windy. What you can't see is that the crash pad was blown away for the next few moves. For more climbing photos check out the photo gallery on my website.

nearly over...

Average Rating = 2.67/5 nearly over...

the right side V4 on Grandma is fun, but way too short to be classic. the V5 traverse from the left to the same finish is way better.

Center Direct, V9

Average Rating = 3.67/5 Center Direct, V9

Although an eliminate, Center Direct has some of the most interesting dynamic movement you can find on hard, steep stone.
