Whitney Alpenglow 2I (sbclimber) took this at about 6:30 in the morning on my way to summiting Mt. Muir, Day Needle, Keller Needle, and Mt. Whitney. Visible is the entire escarpment from Mt. Muir to Mt. Whitney.

Whitney AlpenglowI (sbclimber) took this shot at about 6:30 in the morning. I happened to notice this beautiful alpenglow on my way to summiting Mt. Muir, Day Needle, Keeler Needle, and Mt. Whitney this day. Great sunrise to match a great day.

Forget wall abs, these are Keeler absBill and Paul after 5 days of alpine climbing in the Whitney region. After 4 days we hadn't had our butt kicked, so we did Keeler Needle (about 10 hrs on route). That served up the proper butt kicking. I was cramping by the Red Dihedral (1/2 way on the route). Also, my camera got unscrewed on the crux ow, and fell 100' into Bill's hand. Best Buy exchanged it though!!

Storm on the NeedlesDay Needle on the left - which has stupidly been renamed Crooks Peak does not have any routes that take advantage of the beautiful dihedrals in the center of the face whilst the lines on Keeler Needle (on the right) are rapidly filling up.

Whitney Massif from Lower Boyscout LakeThis photo was taken on the hike in to climb various routes in the Whitney Massif Area in September of 2003. Taken just before sunset I just thought there was something cool about that tree. This evening was some of the best weather that we would see the whole trip. Climbing with Larry, Tony,Todd, Tim, Dennis, and John. A good timehad by all, with summits on Whitney and Russell and a potentially unpleasant situation avoided.

Red DihedralHalfway up the Harding Route, Gert thoroughly enjoys the Red Dihedral. At continuous 5.9, it is the best pitch on this route.
