I always wondered why it was called the thumb, until I made it to the 2nd pitch of Pentapitch (on the opposite side of the canyon) and stopped for a break. Perspective made all the difference. From the canyon floor it more resembles a pyramid or a really bad triangle. What appears to be the top is actually the knuckle. From this angle, you cannot call it anything but "The Thumb". With this shot you can also see most of the routes. Hope this gives you the same "cool!" that I got. - "The Thumb", Little Cottonwood Canyon, SLC, Utah.

Don't know what route this is, but we passed by this crack on our approach up to The Thumb.

Here is pitch 5 on The Thumb IV in Little Cottonwood Canyon. I hate Chimney, even when they are only 5.6. We protected it with a 4.5 camalot.

Here is Tristan starting up the "trough" pitch on The Thumb IV in Little Cottonwood Canyon, UT. After the angled handcrack and small roof, you climb a long unprotected "trough"-like feature that ends nunder the chimney.
