above the hogs back

Average Rating = 1.00/5 above the hogs back

this is right above the the hogs back and the huge crevasse moving closer through the summit, once you clear this steep section of snow its 10 minutes ( that feel like an hour) on rocks to the summit

Mt. Hoods shadow during sunrise from Hogsback (Aug. 14-2005)

Average Rating = 3.48/5 Mt. Hoods shadow during sunrise from Hogsback (Aug. 14-2005)

We stared up at 1 a.m. to beat the heat and slushy snow. Made it up to the Hogsback by sunrise, and the pearly gates weren't so pearly. But the shadow of Hood was interesting. It covers up the city of Portland. An easy route in summer. Summit is worth the slog. Photo: Cullen Kirk Climbers: Cullen Kirk and Vic Lawson

Summit of Mt. Hood

Average Rating = 3.00/5 Summit of Mt. Hood

This is a shot looking across towards the lower side of the summit ridge on Mt. Hood. It was a super nice day out and the summit was a great display of shadow/light.

This is the shadow of Mt. Hood from above the clouds on the summit... nothing better than being alone with 1000 other people to see this view.

Looking down the Hogsback

Average Rating = 2.50/5 Looking down the Hogsback

This photo is looking down the Hogsback right after sunrise, in June of 2004. The conditions were good at the time but probably got pretty slushy after a few more people came through and broke the firm layer of snow on top. Angle was at 42deg. and it was a nice morning all around.

More glacier non-action.

Average Rating = 2.00/5 More glacier non-action.

So yeah while we were coming up we noticed dozens of of climbers coming down carrying ropes, pickets on other large amounts of gear. I can't figure it out, during the summer you really can climb Hood in pair of shoes and shorts. All that other shit just looks so silly.. Why do people lug all the stuff around? For practice? to make it safe? Crazy..

Suz taking a break on the glacier

Average Rating = 3.17/5 Suz taking a break on the glacier

Lazy kids that we are, we didn't start climbing till about 11:00 AM so we didn't have time to summit. On the plus side we had an amazing ski run down. I love summer skiing.

You can see the steam rising from the furmoles to the west of the hogsback. Beautiful day! For perspective, the two small black dots at the bottom of the hogsback are our packs. Taken February 9, 2004
