Before the summit push

Average Rating = 2.00/5 Before the summit push

Hanging out at 15,500ft with Kilimanjaro's minor peak, Mawenzi, in the distance during a rare cloud break. At midnight that night we headed to the summit - nearly 4,000 snowy feet above us. Not a technical peak, but not a walk in the woods either.

Tim Silloutted

Average Rating = 4.00/5 Tim Silloutted

One of the most beautiful settings I have ever seen while sport climbing...sorry the horizon is so skewed, I snapped this while on a nearby climb!

Squeaky pulling on crimps

Average Rating = 3.00/5 Squeaky pulling on crimps

Richard, aka Squeaks, belayed by Tim on a beautiful February day during an outing to Kleinmond, about an hour and a half from Cape Town. This isn't actually Spits or Swallows but I can't remember the actual route name - it's a 24 near the corner of Run Away wall.

Top, the self-proclaimed laziest climber ever, reluctantly crimps his way to the top in good style.

Balancing before the crux of the Gift

Average Rating = 3.30/5 Balancing before the crux of the Gift

This photo was shot in a downpour but you'd never know it because the overhanging rock above us acted as an umbrella.

Our Friend from the Pass

Average Rating = 3.00/5 Our Friend from the Pass

Ok, so the picture is from Astrisk Pass, not Monkey Face, but it's posted here for now until the guy in the picture finds it, and then I'll move the shot...friend, if you find these pics leave me a comment so I know that you found them and can move this one to the right spot!

First lead of the day

Average Rating = 2.50/5 First lead of the day

Having been in Indiana two nights before (where there was snow on the ground), I was delighted to lead a fun route in the SUN. The name of the route is Five Gallon Buckets for a reason! In any case, I got a sunburn on my back the first day out and slathered on the sunscreen after that.

Pretty Colors of Autumn

Average Rating = 2.50/5 Pretty Colors of Autumn

The aiders were brought up because he had hoped to aid the large roof above Autumn over to the ledge on the right, downclimb some and rap off the Rock Wars anchors. Never happened because the second thought it would be suicide, so that project has been postponed indefinately and probably for good reason. I just liked the colorful rack!

George working hard

Average Rating = 3.50/5 George working hard

Marcio took this shot while George set up the top rop on the route for everyone else we were with to try...a good fun route next to lots of other good decent routes.

Average Rating = 3.67/5 Dragonslayer

Another wussy toprope shot; an awesome route that I unfortunately don't think I'll be leading any time soon.

Halloween Climbing

Average Rating = 3.50/5 Halloween Climbing

Come on, who DOESN'T climb in a dragon costume on Halloween? Taken while I was on Wadcutter, immediately right of Bandolier.

Slackin in a skirt

A little over-excited

Average Rating = 3.30/5 A little over-excited

Being goofy at the top of Jump for Joy, and mostly just excited that it was warm enough to climb in a sports bra in the middle of November.

Highline in the trees

Average Rating = 2.50/5 Highline in the trees

When we get bored sometimes the climbers throw up a highline between the trees on North Quad. This was our first and by far the most unsafe one. We've since made a few changes about the way we string it up....

Matt on the highline

Average Rating = 1.67/5 Matt on the highline

Notre Dame's original slackline guru shows his stuff on the first North Quad highline, before we learned to double-tape our webbing.

George about to flash

Average Rating = 3.00/5 George about to flash

The intended route, I believe, is a dyno from just above where George is to the ledge just right of the ancors. He cheated right a little but still flashed it.

Casey working the starting moves

Average Rating = 3.00/5 Casey working the starting moves

George, Casey and I spent half our day playing on this route. It's a lot of fun but pretty tricky.

Heel hooking it

Average Rating = 3.50/5 Heel hooking it

After George took a twenty foot lead fall onto my head just before I climbed this, I decided that top-roping this one would be good enough for me. A word of caution to anyone belaying this route - it's possible to ground out if you fall with a lot of slack out trying to clip that third bolt, so watch out!

Just follow the chalk

Average Rating = 2.50/5 Just follow the chalk

Although I normally think chalk takes away from the compostition of a picture, I really liked the way it added to this one. Now if only I could remember the name of the route....

Can you spot me?

Average Rating = 4.00/5 Can you spot me?

I'll give you a hint - upper left quadrant. I blend in too well with the rock...oh well. A sweet 21 grade climb in a beautiful corner of South Africa.
