90 meter wall at Boomerang Park

Average Rating = 0.00/5 90 meter wall at Boomerang Park

view of upper part. Located 2 Km nw of Chiang Rai, northernmost Thailand. This wall has been climbed twice solo without aid, though each time KenA wound up veering to right at upper 20% because of steepness and danger factor. It can be summited by bouldering up its west (left) side.

Crouching Lion Hill, Chiang Rai

Average Rating = 0.00/5 Crouching Lion Hill, Chiang Rai

2 Km west of Chiang Rai, Thailand - on the north bank of the Mae Kok river is a long hill that parallels the river, across from Pattaya Noi beach. At its east end is this crag - which has never been climbed. Height; approx 35 meters. The white streaked limestone on the right is particularly challenging (at least 5-13) near its base, as it was carved inward by the river. An incredible cave is 100 meters west of this crag. It has 3 chambers, each with a nat'l skylight, and the cave goes completely through the hill.

traverse on fixed cables

Average Rating = 0.00/5 traverse on fixed cables

One of four walls at Boomerang dedicated to traversing as well as ascending. Twin 6mm steel cables are anchored horizontally. For the two longer & higher traverse routes, a longer tether can be used, to enable a climber to traverse at various heights.

slacklining with safety cable

Average Rating = 0.00/5 slacklining with safety cable

One of two slacklines or 'tightropes' At Boomerang Park. This girls is trying it for her first time, so the tether to the overhead 10mm safety cable is rather tight. The slacklines are 3 inch wide heavy straps (used for furniture construction), and stretch about 25 feet from rock to rock.

twin 160 meter zip lines

Average Rating = 0.00/5 twin 160 meter zip lines

Two zippers zipping concurrently at Boomerang Park. The boy on right is easily seen - but can you see the girl on the left? The zip lines are 3 meters apart and come off of a wooden deck built in to the limestone cliff (you can see the steep wooden steps leading of it at the top-right of the photo). Zippers wind up in a tree lined meadow below. Cables are half inch multi-strand steel.

One of several crags at Boomerang

Average Rating = 0.00/5 One of several crags at Boomerang

Looking up a slightly concave 17 meter crag with several fixed anchors at top for top-rope climbing - no bolts. The rope shown is not climbing rope, but rather it's green string used to get the climbing rope up and around the top-rope anchors. The anchors are made from heavy chain embedded in cement in crevices. A truck axle U-bolt is then attached to the two ends of the chain. If one part of the chain were to break (extremely unlikely), the bolt would still hold the climbing rope 100%. Estimate, the five routes at this crag range from 5.10 to 5.12 - located at Boomerang Adventure Park, 2 Km NW of Chiang Rai, northern Thailand.

90 meter wall at Boomerang

Average Rating = 0.00/5 90 meter wall at Boomerang

Although this prominent limestone wall crowns the Boomerang Park, it has never been climbed straight up. Ken (the developer of the park) has red pointed it twice, but each time has had to work over to the right near the summit. As with other straight sided limestone hills in this area (Thais call them mountains or 'pu kao', because they're the tallest protrusions for hundreds of miles) - they're generally smoother at the lower ends, and sharper at their upper reaches. There is a steep 'n rocky gully up its left / western side, so it's a non-technical way to ascend to the summit. The top has a 200 degree sweeping view of Chiang Rai town as well as large portion of the river valley, including other hills - stretching out for twenty five miles or more.

east end of Crouching Lion Hill

Average Rating = 0.00/5 east end of Crouching Lion Hill

About 200 meters SW of Boomerang Park is a long hill which parallels the Mae Kok river (which flows out of Burma in the west, to merge with the Mekong river in the east). Called 'Crouching Lion Hill' it has a Buddha Cave on its west end, and a through-the-hill 3-chambered cave near its west end. This photo shows some undeveloped and never-been-climbed rock walls at its east end. The white marblelized rock face would be particularly challenging - for some daring climber.
