Sunset over the Olympics

Average Rating = 3.95/5 Sunset over the Olympics

This is a picture taken by Dr. Dale Ireland (see www.drdale.com, submitted with permission) on 1/28/2003 of a sunset over the Olympic Mountains in Washington State. You can see the snow covered peaks of The Brother's, Mt Jupiter and my favorite on the right, Mt Constance. Not only is this a colorful sunset, the water in the Hood Canal looks like molten lava. The hi-res version is amazing. Email me for the hi-res version.

Awesome to say the least!

Average Rating = 4.00/5 Awesome to say the least!

This has got to be the best sunset I have ever seen. There's nothing better than to climb all day and look up to see this. I would say its mighty close to a 5.15 but you tell me. -- Ok it looks like after a few votes that this may only be in the 5.13+ range.

What the heck!

Average Rating = 3.33/5 What the heck!

This is Noell, a very skilled and dedicated climber stepping unreasonably high in a chimney on Crowders Mountain, NC 20030914. Not only would I require major surgery should I attempt this move but looking at it makes me want to down a couple of Advil just to be safe. What amazes me more is somehow she made this move.

Hottest day of the year

Average Rating = 3.67/5 Hottest day of the year

This is me as I scurry up the Great Arch (5.5) on Stone Mountain, NC on what happens to be the hottest day of the year. It gives you an idea of what bacon feels like but the climb was excellent (obviously not crowded as people with sense stayed indoors) and a great day 20030827.

Pulling Papa Bear 5.10c

Average Rating = 3.50/5 Pulling Papa Bear 5.10c

This is ten year old Asya Grechka pulling the roof on Papa Bear (5.10c) at Pilot Mountain NC 20031130. Keep you eye on this young lady as she consistantly climbs 5.11s with ease at 10 years old. Her nickname is Champagne or Chimpanzee, actually I'm not sure as both seem to fit her. (Cheers!)

Squeezing up the Caterpillar

Average Rating = 2.75/5 Squeezing up the Caterpillar

This is Noell as she works the endless chimney of the Caterpillar (5.7) at Crowders Mountain, NC 20030914. You can ask her and she'll tell you it sucked but I like it because if you want to learn chimneys, this is a good start. Watch out for spiders as they like the chimneys too.

The route should have a name

Average Rating = 3.00/5 The route should have a name

The books don't show a name for this route so I'll just call it the Orange Dihedral since that's what it was. A great route and if you look close you can see the big smile on my face. Summersville Lake, New River Gorge, WV 20030906.

Grateful for the Ingrate

Average Rating = 2.80/5 Grateful for the Ingrate

This is me as I climb the arete on Ingrate (5.9) on Summersville Lake at the New River Gorge, WV 20030621. It was an awesome day as there was rain all summer and this was the first dry day in a while. This route is off the trail so we were grateful it was open.
