My favorite Climbing cover shot. The day we discovered the North Quarry I ended up spotting Wilford high-balling most of the day. Nice landing, eh? I think we both would have died.

I know this doesn't have much to do with climbing but we took a day out of our climbing trip to float the Big Hole in MT and I landed this beauty.
His name is Fred...

Honest to God, this guy was on the ledge next to me on Insu Bong, the most popular crag in Korea. And, honest to God, he's actually belaying a guy up there on the rope. And honest to God, when his cell phone went off he answered!

Beautiful conditions in Ouray on opening day 2005. Mal climbing out. Rope was photoshopped out because the color clashed with my clothes. Photo by Al Fiorello

The guide books call this 5.8 and it may be if you find the secret handhold. I chickened out right about where you see me. As I was lowering off I saw the fixed pin I missed and the secret handhold.

I felt great leading this pitch. Not even breathing hard at the top. While belaying my partners up my chest started to hurt. I assumed it was bronchitis because I'd had it before. It was a heart attack coming on. 3 hours later, I flatlined.

Leading a route on the guide's wall in Red Rocks. This is the slabby wall right next to the parking lot for the Sandstone Quarry area. Don't know the name of this route but it's the bolt line 30' right of Fender Bender.

I was psyched. After 2 1/2 years of being a cripple I was on my way to being an amputee. Rig on my left leg is an Ilizarov; a type of external fixator that can re-grow bone.
