Typical grit balance....

Average Rating = 3.60/5 Typical grit balance....

My climbing partner Pete climbing the crux of a short solo just round the corner from April Arete. It's not to bad (E2/HVS). All in a good day's work...

Je suis un legend

Average Rating = 3.00/5 Je suis un legend

As the saying goes... myself seconding the above route name on the rim of the Verdon Gorge. It's about 7b+ i think. One of my favourite sport routes ever! The crux is a bunched up leaning mantle-shelf using a mono pocket - that hurt! Photo by Tom Williams

Ssshhh! Don't tell anyone....

Average Rating = 2.00/5 Ssshhh! Don't tell anyone....

Who said that climbing was a wholesome sport?! This was during my second year at Sheffield University when myself and some mates decided to steal/borrow the University mascot as a challenge. I (yes, lucky me) then had to climb onto the 5-floor halls of residence roof and place the mascot on top of the main chimney stack for everyone to see. Consequently the Vice President was in deep doo-doo's for losing the prized mascot and myself and a mate got to throw kitchen slops all over the VP whilst he was tied down to a chair with duct tape in front of a big crowd. Probably the best day of our lives....!

Mescalito Summit

Average Rating = 2.50/5 Mescalito Summit

Myself and Pete Davies on the summit of Mescalito - a great route and very much like running a marathon! I'm going to have to lie down just thinking about it...

Strapadictomy, E5 6a

Average Rating = 3.40/5 Strapadictomy, E5 6a

This classic grit route, Strapadictomy at Froggatt (climbed here by Tom Randall) was originally climbed on just nuts. The crux is establishing yourself at a standing position on the hanging arete, where a hidden pocket greatly helps the chance of reaching the top break.

Highballing on some unknown in North Wales

Average Rating = 4.19/5 Highballing on some unknown in North Wales

This was taken back in 1997, on an epic trip to North Wales where we learnt that trad climbing is a whole lot better (and scary!) than sport!!! In my opinion anyway....

Pitch 4 on the Zodiac

Average Rating = 0.00/5 Pitch 4 on the Zodiac

Myself hanging out at the start of pitch 4, hoping the mess at the belay will go away and wondering why I left my hooks on the ground!

MrHardGrit making the stretch...

Average Rating = 4.15/5 MrHardGrit making the stretch...

The route is Strapadictomy, E5 6a at Froggatt. The climbing is rather pumpy but well protected. An absolute classic!

Thin climbing on Canoe

Average Rating = 3.64/5 Thin climbing on Canoe

MrHardGrit soloing Canoe at Froggatt. It's a tricky little E2 really, with a rather strange move near the top to the nasty, slopey, rounded top-out
