Tribute To Boy Scouts

Average Rating = 0.00/5 Tribute To Boy Scouts

Boy Scout Troop 266 from Roswell, Georgia put up a covered area with the route listings from the Dixie Cragger's Atlas. I don't expect the drunken rednecks to let it stand, but I appreciate both the Scouts and Chris Watford (for permitting the route posting).

Jaws Block Cave

Average Rating = 0.00/5 Jaws Block Cave

I enjoyed the solitude of having Sand Rock to myself on Saturday 1/30/10. The fog had drifted in as the rain ended, so I shot some pics and got in a couple solo TRs.

Seeking the Sunset

Average Rating = 0.00/5 Seeking the Sunset

I invited our group to gather at the top of the Pinnacle. It was hot on the ground, but windy and cool up there.

Unknown Route at Mammoth Cave NP

Average Rating = 0.00/5 Unknown Route at Mammoth Cave NP

This was taken where the half-mile trail passes the first and larger of two sinkholes (starting to the right). This hole is very dirty with very little protection. The cracks are very wide or microscopic. I elected to pass on the lead and just rap in, TR solo out.

Mosaic With Fall

Average Rating = 0.00/5 Mosaic With Fall

I compiled the shot for a deliberate mosaic of Gravy Train with a top rope hanging. Then I shot some of Erica attacking the overhung finish. She came off and I got the shot, so I added her to the mosaic.

A Poster

Average Rating = 0.00/5 A Poster

I took this with the idea of a poster from backlighting. I think it works, anyway, I like it.

Profile From Sandrock

Average Rating = 0.00/5 Profile From Sandrock

This shot caught my eye as a possible poster, so I worked with it. Now I am using it as a profile shot.

Army Ranger Aid Training

Average Rating = 2.00/5 Army Ranger Aid Training

A group of Army Rangers showed up for advanced aid training. I was expecting to be asked to leave, but they were very cool. I asked for permission to shoot pictures and it was granted. I shot many pictures, but this was probably the best.

Giant Bonsai, Main Face, Yonah

Average Rating = 3.20/5 Giant Bonsai, Main Face, Yonah

I love this tree! It is growing right on rock. If it was 8" high it would be a perfect Bonsai, instead it is about 8'.

How Big A Tree Can You Trust

Average Rating = 0.00/5 How Big A Tree Can You Trust

This tree sat at the base of Peek-A-Boo at Table Rock, Linville Gorge, NC. I submitted it to offer to John Long for his next anchor book. I have another picture with a woman standing next to the roots, but they tower over her.

View before our ascent

Average Rating = 0.00/5 View before our ascent

I am trying to remember exactly where I was before leading out of the trees. We took Jim Dandy to My Route and I snapped this possibly while being very lost on the East Face. Submitted as Assignment #1, framing.

Topping Out - First Night TR Solo

Average Rating = 1.50/5 Topping Out - First Night TR Solo

My son shot this as I topped out on Beginners (5.6). This move is actually the most difficult of the route, and not often done. Allenbrook has a large ledge about 10' below the approach path, which is where many build their anchors. My partner on this climb was a Petzl BASIC.

This was the Boulder at 10:00 Saturday 8/21. Eerie and beautiful. We were just passing through, but I had to stop and shoot.

Approach to the Slab Area

Average Rating = 2.00/5 Approach to the Slab Area

This is the view from the bottom of the approach down to the base of the Slab Area. This is why people rappel down and climb up. I really appreciate the gentle person who left the knotted rope.

I got pumped on the idea of a night climb, from reading some posts. So, here I am preparing to rappel down and TR solo back up. My son is taking pictures with a throwaway camera.

A winter view of the falls at Foster Falls. One reason why outdoors is better than a gym.
