San Juan Explorers

Average Rating = 0.00/5 San Juan Explorers

Here we took the kayak out with my son Tony. My cousin, Paul, who took all the photos, and I paddled him around the small cove where the beach house was. Tony seemed to like it a lot, although he got a little wet! Overall, it was probably the greatest vacation we've had, and a great time had by all. Photos by Paul Alley Photography.

San Juan Traverse

Average Rating = 0.00/5 San Juan Traverse

On a recent trip to San Juan island, I took some time out to try some bouldering along the shoreline. The route was more a traverse than a send, and I ended up going sideway for quite a distance. The weather and scenery were beautiful, and I can't wait to go back. Photos by Paul Alley Photography.

San Juan Climb

Average Rating = 0.00/5 San Juan Climb

This is my favorite shot of this area. It shows the beach we used for kayaking and the edge I traversed. The bouldering wasn't too much of a challenge, it wasn't really steep, but the rock was very sharp, and cut up my hands, shoes, and my shins when I slipped. Photos by Paul Alley Photography.

San Juan Climbing Kid

Average Rating = 4.00/5 San Juan Climbing Kid

Here's a photo of my son, Tony, climbing the rocks in San Juan. He wanted to be a rock climber, just like his daddy. One thing's for sure, he's got a wicked crimping grip. Tony's 5 yrs old, and is a bundle of energy. It was a good thing he worked off some of that energy climbing! Photos by Paul Alley Photography.

South Mtn. - Northern Amplitheatre area

Average Rating = 2.00/5 South Mtn. - Northern Amplitheatre area

This is me infront of the crag. We used a toprope anchored to two trees at the top. Trying to keep the rope out of the crack was the hardest part. It had a slight overhang and a nice crack for jamming. Overall a lot of fun for my first outdoor climbing experience. Photo taken by Joel.

Route marking

Average Rating = 0.00/5 Route marking

This was a small climb north of the amphlitheatre area. I'm not sure if it's been named before, or if it's actually Africa. We were climbing there about a month ago, and it was my first experience outside of a gym. I actually really impressed myself, climbing better than I had in the gym. It took so long to setup, I only got to send it 3 times, but there were several good problems along this range. Photo taken by Joel.

New Route Problem

Average Rating = 1.50/5 New Route Problem

This was aproximately the route we did, with variations slightly to the right and left. I really liked the crack jamming, and it had a slight crux to get over before topping out. We toproped this problem with a belay and anchored to two trees at the top. I'm really looking forward to returning this weekend to try it again. Photo taken by Joel.

Pima Cyn Route

Average Rating = 1.00/5 Pima Cyn Route

Here's another view of the route we did. It was a nice cool day, and we went pretty early in the morning. The route had a lot of shale and the rock broke in my hands several times, so I'm not sure that anyone else has climbed this face before. Plus, there were absolutely no chalk marks, and the rock was pristine. A really beautiful day in Pima. Photo by Joel.

Climbing Buddy

Average Rating = 2.00/5 Climbing Buddy

My friend Joel infront of the route we climbed. This was taken in Pima Cyn at the upper amphlitheatre area. This face was just north of the amphlitheatre, and had several routes we wanted to try later on. One, just to the left of the problem we climbed, had a big hambone sticking out, which would've been a great starting dyno move. Unfortunately, we didn't get any photos of us actually climbing, because we were belaying and there were only two of us. Maybe next time we'll take a third person and get some good photos. First slackline attempt.....

Average Rating = 0.00/5 First slackline attempt.....

This was my first experience at slacklining. I've done a little climbing, but mostly stick to MTB, and I'm going on a surfing trip in 6 weeks, and wanted to work on my balance. It is MUCH harder than it looks in most photos! I spent 40 min practicing, and still couldn't stand up for more than a couple seconds. I've read that most people get the "hang" (excuse the bad pun) of it within 20 min. Anyone have any tips? Thanks in advance. son_volt
