view from the climb

Average Rating = 1.00/5 view from the climb

The view looking towards utah lake is really nice. you are close to the city but really there is no one up the canyon.

Fire on Limestone

Average Rating = 3.00/5 Fire on Limestone

As the sun set Rachel, Alana, and I watched the limestone wall behind the hidden change to a magnificent shade of red. This is reallly a bueatiful part of the canyon.

Route maps for the hidden

Average Rating = 3.50/5 Route maps for the hidden

The Guide book for the canyon is all but useless. I thought that we could start posting things like this and it would make finding new routes in the cayon easier.

Red Slab Routes

Average Rating = 3.50/5 Red Slab Routes

The current guide book sucks and I have been waiting forever for the new one. I think a couple of simple route maps will make climnbing in the canyon more enjoyable tell me what you think

Route map

Average Rating = 0.00/5 Route map

Great climb though the upper section is pretty loose. I had 2 holds pull off. I really love the first pitch it is isolated and has a great view of the back of the canyon. Great Date climb. You can bail after the first pitch

last few moves to anchors

Average Rating = 3.00/5 last few moves to anchors

Fun climb. I have found that putting a few shots together like this can be interesting to look at and also lets the observer know a bit more about the route.

Finding another Jug

Average Rating = 2.50/5 Finding another Jug

This wall is awsome limestone!!! Pockets everywhere and lots of fun moves. This is by far the easiest lead on the wall

Rachel's reach

Average Rating = 2.43/5 Rachel's reach

This flash on this picture lit up the limestone and the darkening sky somehow ended up white as well. I really like the effect. Great camera work Alana!!!

Alanna's lead on Hidden wall

Average Rating = 2.86/5 Alanna's lead on Hidden wall

This is Alanna on only her third lead ever (not bad). She is an up and comer. The black against white is pretty cool expecially as the white fades to blue. Great camera work Rachel!!

Alanna tries an 11

Average Rating = 3.00/5 Alanna tries an 11

After leading every route on the red slab I thought I would scout out this route and try to lead it after a top rope try. I was surprised to see Alanna make this route. It really is a fun route with a few hard problems. Save energy for the last 20 feet.

Passing the firs bolt

Average Rating = 2.50/5 Passing the firs bolt

Easy climb but lots of fun. The first pitch is mostly 5.6 with maybe two 5.7 moves. The second pitch (only 30 ft) has one 5.9 move that is pretty fun. I love sporting this route and then tope roping "erase your face" This is also one of the longer climbs in the lower valley. You will peobably need a 60 meter rope.

crux move

Average Rating = 2.00/5 crux move

I found this move to be the easiest way to deal with the crux. Many people try to jam there left hand in the dirty crak on the left but it really does not provide much. If you hook your right foot around the corner and reach out there is a crimp that is alright and that is what I use to hold on to while I clip the bolts on top

Tom clips bolt #4

Average Rating = 2.00/5 Tom clips bolt #4

Not a bad climb, One of the few routes on the red slab that requires effort and is not always being climbed by people who are afraid of anything that approaches being vertical (the same ones who are constanly knocking loose rock down on those below).

The 5.9 roof

Average Rating = 3.00/5 The 5.9 roof

I always watch the rookies cheat through this climb and then talk about how they can climb 5.10d. This a 9+ (the 10.d is 20 feet to the left and is trad)and if you have a brain you can solve the crux pretty quick and finish the rest of the route which is like 7 to 8 after the roof. A really fun lead and a great warm up. You can usually find this route open as well because you can not set it up as a top rope without leading it.
