The Eastern Alaska Range from Rainbow Ridge...

Average Rating = 3.67/5 The Eastern Alaska Range from Rainbow Ridge...

This shot was taken at about 5700' during a March climb of Rainbow Ridge. In the distance can be seen Mt Shand, Mt Moffit, and McGinnis Peak. Lack of snow on the lower portions of the ridge made for some good hiking, and then some interesting scrambling on incredibly loose scree (trekking poles were a nice thing to bring along). The upper portions were comprised of excellent windblown snow/ice. Photo by Cullan (drzaous).

Average Rating = 3.50/5 late morning in the Deltas...

White Princess high above during a late fall 2005 trip to the Deltas. This picture was taken from a low ridge while descending Item Peak, which we were not able to summit due to dangerous snow conditions resulting from a storm the previous night...

McGinnis Peak from the North.

Average Rating = 3.33/5 McGinnis Peak from the North.

Taken from about 20 miles away on the way back from a February trip to the Delta Mountains. The ridge pointing to the summit (separating shadow and sun) is the Northeast ridge, the most "popular" route used to ascend the peak...

Descending the Southwest ridge of Item Peak

Average Rating = 3.25/5 Descending the Southwest ridge of Item Peak

This is me descending a portion of the Southwest ridge after an attempt on Item Peak via the Castner Glacier. Bad weather moving in and poor snow conditions forced us to bail and find a place to camp for the night. Photo by Cullan (Drzaous).

The view toward Tuckerman's

Average Rating = 0.00/5 The view toward Tuckerman's

Beautiful day of hiking on Lion's Head. While nearing the summit, we were rewarded with clearer weather and excellent views of the southern White Mountains and of Tuckerman's Ravine...

Descending the ridge

Average Rating = 3.43/5 Descending the ridge

This picture is of me descending the summit ridge into the clouds. This ridge was one of the easier portions of the route, however exposure is still a concern. The slope to the climber's left drops off at an increasingly steep angle into the clouds and out of sight.

Trims Creek Camp sunset

Average Rating = 5.00/5 Trims Creek Camp sunset

This picture was taken on Feb. 17th 2007 during a mid-winter ascent of Item Peak. We were having unseasonably warm temperatures, so the -15 at night was quite enjoyable. The picture was taken from our camp, where we staged a 2.5 hour slog up to the summit, then back to the road.

Institute Peak Summit Ridge

Average Rating = 5.00/5 Institute Peak Summit Ridge

This is the final summit ridge of Institute Peak (8000'), Delta Mountains, Alaska. The ascent occurred in September 2006. We experienced stable snow conditions for all but the last 4 pitches to the summit, enjoying the exposure, as well as a lack of large cornices over much of the final ridge due to the warm summer temperatures...
