Kim on the arete.

Average Rating = 3.00/5 Kim on the arete.

V3? Fun problem and a lot trickier than it looks. Seems like it'd be an obvious heel hook until you're actually on it.

Alex traversing at Moonstone

Average Rating = 2.00/5 Alex traversing at Moonstone

Fell in love with this beach although there were only a few boulders compared to the neighboring Lost Rocks. Here's Alex working an interesting traverse.

Alex highballing at Lost Rocks

Average Rating = 2.00/5 Alex highballing at Lost Rocks

Here's my girlfriend, whom I often hear calling out to me,"I think that's high enough" on a highball of her own. She overcame a bit of a mental crux though she admitted the climb itself was easy.

Jesse on Chain Reaction (5.12c)

Average Rating = 3.17/5 Jesse on Chain Reaction (5.12c)

Didn't catch his last name, but here's Jesse successfully landing the lunge and going into a heel hook before finishing up Chain Reaction (looks like he had the route pretty wired... must be nice to be a local at Smith Rock).

The Hatchet

Average Rating = 2.50/5 The Hatchet

Apparently an unfinished project (abandoned due to the very weak rock), we had no knowledge of this as all three of us could have sworn we saw all the bolts leading up to the anchor. Once on the route, the metallic shine above the fourth bolt morphed into some odd coloration in the rock. The sixth? Must've been one of those retractable hangers.... Don't think there was anywhere to place pro, not that we had any, and if we did, we didn't feel too good placing it in mud. Why did we climb it? This photo op of course! (Well no, it did look solid at first). So here's Robby cleaning the route after I bailed in frustration. He's placing a screw-gate ring ($0.25 at the hardware store) in the fourth hanger so we can keep our last draw and let him down at the same time.

Climber on P.O.D.

Average Rating = 1.50/5 Climber on P.O.D.

Wish I got their names, but this couple and a friend of theirs climbed the same couple days our little trio spent at the Pinnacles. I kinda wish she wore something that contrasted against the dark rock for photographic purposes, but if I ever decide to paint this scene, I can easily change that!

Stan leading P2 of Grack

Average Rating = 3.00/5 Stan leading P2 of Grack

My first multi-pitch experience. Stan here took us under his wing for this outing. A lot of fun, but four people on a multi pitch with three of us being new to it.... made for a loooong day. We got drizzled on briefly, but all in all a beautiful climbing day. By the way.... in this photo just a little bit further up the crack is/was a well nestled cam. I almost got it out with my nutting tool, but as it was quite crowded that day I couldn't fool with it long enough. -_-

Climber at Yosemite Falls

Average Rating = 2.00/5 Climber at Yosemite Falls

Unfortunately I don't know the name of the route but I'm sure someone here will. I'm not exactly up to this level of trad climbing yet so I'm not too concerned about it!

Leading P.O.D.

Average Rating = 3.00/5 Leading P.O.D.

This was my second climb on our first day at the Pinnacles. It took some getting used to the rock.... as it resembled the cross cut section of broken concrete, and any fall pretty much guaranteed you were gonna bleed! Well, maybe not, but it sure felt like it.

Lost in Pine Canyon

Average Rating = 3.50/5 Lost in Pine Canyon

The adventure leading up to this moment in the photo is by far more interesting. We walked around aimlessly for 3 hours looking for Pine Canyon at Mt. Diablo. We stopped three people on the way for directions. The first, a jogger, pointed us in the general right direction... he was the most trustworthy, being that he was a climber himself... but we still managed to stay lost. The second was a cyclist who, because of his nifty spandex outfit, probably thought he needed to sound well-informed and savvy on the area, when in fact, he was even more lost than we were. The third, a man in black jeans, combat boots, dark shades, w/ a leather canteen, who I firmly believe was some former military personnel that got booted out of sniper school, seemed pretty knowledgeable of the area, but at this point I was more concerned about my life than our destination as he seemed to find it appropriate to mention the fact that the last murder in Pine Canyon took place three years ago. He was careful to mention he wasn't around at the time.... but has been in this area for 10 years. Somehow the math didn't add up, and when we finally found a rock to climb I was more preoccupied with finding the reflecting glint of metal from a rifle from some perch in an oak tree down below than finding the next hold to grab on the crumbly sandstone wall. Despite the rough start in our day, here I am, climbing on mud, somewhat determined to figure out which holds will hold, but more determined to get the hell out and head to Ben N Nicks for a burger.

Robby on

Average Rating = 3.50/5 Robby on "Unknown"

A very fun route (5.9) had by all on this beautiful day up in Auburn. Here's Robby, who was just as perplexed as I was, as to how I got him to look so ripped in this photo. Erm, I mean, he always looks like that! And yes ladies, he is single.

Davin, a.k.a Fossil...

Average Rating = 0.00/5 Davin, a.k.a Fossil...

....but even better known as Left Shoe Blue Right Shoe Red, because he used to wear a mismatched pair of shoes, but in the photo we see him in a new pair of Mad Rocks.... which he had put off buying for the longest time because he didn't want to lose his nickname. Easily solved, he bought mismatched shoelaces! Now he can concentrate on more urgent matters, such as where to go next on this route.

A Budding Cinematographer

Average Rating = 3.00/5 A Budding Cinematographer

My first summer as a climber has been blessed with many new friends, along with many new stories from our adventures. Sometimes, the best way to tell them are in your own words, other times, you tape them! Here's Davin filming me at the finish of 'Sneaky'.

Too pumped for Tuna

Average Rating = 3.00/5 Too pumped for Tuna

Here I am making a final attempt to get to the ...ahem.. third bolt before giving up on my first 5.12a attempt. Ah well, it was all in good fun anyhow. There's a much easier and obvious option on this move, but I was experimenting (or desperate?) in the moment shown here.
